A nice 2.7 mile loop with river and peak views (note there are other trails that intersect with this one in case you want more mileage!). There is one confusing spot on the trail that goes through a Whiteface parking lot. Cross the lot and go towards your left, you will see the trail pick back up. Suitable for dogs. The first half of the hike is harder than the second half.

Great hike with views of Lower Wolfjaw and Mount Marcy! The trailhead for this hike is south of Keene and is 5 miles out and back - you can add on Snow Mountain to create a loop and add another 2 miles! This is a moderate hike that meanders through the woods for the first 1.5 miles, and then becomes steeper. Great open rock face where you can enjoy a lunch or a summit beer! 18 minute drive.

Food scene

Some of our favorite spots in and around the high peak region!
If you’re looking for a close dinner spot, look no further than the Ice Jam. This is a quaint restaurant and inn that is open for Wednesday - Sunday. We recommend making a reservation, as they can be booked up by 4pm. If you want to test your luck, Thursdays are their slowest night and you may be able to get by without a reservation. Ice Jam has both indoor and outdoor dining (unfortunately they are not dog friendly). The Ice Jam has a great menu that has vegan and vegetarian friendly options. Note the restaurant only serves beer and wine (no cocktails). Friendly service and healthy sized portions- this is a great spot! $$ - $30-$50/person (depending on if you order appetizers, desserts, and drinks) 6 minute drive

This is a great and close breakfast stop for foodies and coffee lovers alike. The cafe roasts its own coffee, and the food is quick and delicious. Don’t be afraid to try their famous breakfast trout platter! It’s fantastic (half would be fine). All desserts are homemade - don’t forget to pick up cookies or their fudge on the way out! Please note that this restaurant is not dog friendly. Tip: you’ll receive a 4% savings if you pay with cash or gift card. 5 minute drive $$ - $15/person (including tip)

If you’re looking for a close pizzeria near the house, this place serves good pizza (it's not the world's greatest, but it's perfect for after a day in the woods or on the slopes!) We recommend the Pesto Chicken - it’s flavorful and delicious and is great cold or reheated the next day! 7 minute drive $15-$25 depending on size and specialty

Highly recommend stopping by this farm store for eggs, milk, dairy products, meats, teas, and hand crafted artisan items! Note the store is not staffed and all items are purchased through the square app and the honor system. You can’t go wrong stopping here for fresh farm produce! $$ - $55(ish) per person if you order appetizers, drinks, dinner, and dessert. If you’re looking for a farm to table experience, look no further! Excellent food with vegetarian and vegan options. The menu isn’t large, but the food is excellent. There is an outdoor patio that allows dogs (I would call ahead to confirm, as one year they did not). Wine and beer only.

If you're in Placid and want to sit outside by a fire, look no further. This restaurant has a great outdoor patio - even in the colder months - where you can sit by the fire and enjoy a beverage and snack. The food is delicious and is smoked on site. Great smoked wings! Dog friendly outside.

A trip to Lake Placid is not complete without a stop at Imagination Station. The gifts here are unique and the owner is constantly updating its Lake Placid merchandise inventory so that there are always new shirts and swag to look at! We are not ashamed to say that we've purchased at least 10 different Lake Placid shirts and long sleeves over the years! Dog friendly!

Great spot to buy cycling, fishing, and hiking/skiing gear. They have a great assortment of bikes and have a shop int he back should you need any maintenance or repairs. Bring sweaters and/or long sleeves - even in summer!

While the summer days may be hot, nights tend to cool in this area. We recommend always packing a light jacket, long sleeve, or cozy sweater for those cooler nights!
Samgöngur

A vehicle is the fastest way to get around.

However, if you are staying during the winter months, there is a free ski shuttle to Whiteface 7 days a week from mid December to mid March. The shuttle can pick you up from the Jay Village Green (5 min walk - between Mill Road and Parkside Road).

AMR Trail System

If you are hiking any trail that begins from the AMR lot, please make sure to make a reservation for your vehicle, otherwise you will not be able to park your car (this is a hard rule and they will make you turn your car around - we know first hand!). Note that dogs are also not allowed at this trailhead, even if you have a reservation.

The Skiing!

In full honesty, we have only skied/snowboarded here in April! But, wow! We can’t wait to be here during peak season. What an undervalued mountain! The vertical is awesome for the East Coast and the discounted Spring tickets made for a fantastic value. In 4 hours, we did 9 runs, with NO WAITS and recorded 20,000 feet in vertical, 16 miles, 90 minutes on the lifts/gondola, and 100 minutes downhill. The other hour we indulged in a nice hazy IPA at the lodge. We recommend purchasing your lift tickets online (and it may at times be mandatory). 15 minute drive
