How to get around Toronto like a local

The TTC is Toronto's public transit system. Locals generally use PRESTO cards in which you can load and reload money onto and tap at the subway gate or streetcar/bus entrances to pay your fare. PRESTO machines can be found at any subway station to buy a reloadable card or day/week passes. The TTC does not charge by distance so there is no need to tap off (with the exception of the UP express, the train used primarily to go to and from Pearson airport). The benefit of the PRESTO reloadable card is there's flat rate of $3.25, with free transfers for 2 hours from your initial tap.

Ross Ward is one of less known Toronto's treasures! You can catch him some days outside the Chick-fil-A across Bloor Yonge Station. He sells his handmade wood carvings of birds (cash only). Be sure to grab one to support him and as a nice memento of your trip!
