State Parks, Sightseeing, Hiking, Biking, Swimming and Rock Climbing

this is a work in progress but here you will find my recommendations for the best local places to get out into nature.
If you are considering booking this campsite you likely already know about the beautiful Minnewasaka State Park, but for those who don't you simply must visit the park. it's the reason this campsite exists and we are the closest Airbnb to the park on this side. it's close enough to bike and almost close enough to walk to the main entrance. official park website https://parks.ny.gov/parks/minnewaska/maps.aspx Maps https://www.avenzamaps.com/maps/91875 https://parks.ny.gov/documents/parks/MinnewaskaMinnewaskaStateParkTrailMap.pdf https://parks.ny.gov/documents/parks/MinnewaskaClimbingAreaMap.pdf

Literally TOO CLOSE!!! this is a super cool brewery almost within walking distance to the campsite. seriously amazing beer and food and dangerously too close to home. beer is available for takeout which is wonderful. very easy option for good eats and drinks after a long day of hiking

Neighborhoods

check out the paltz if you've never been. if you're headed up from NYC or Jersey you'll likely pass thru new paltz via exit 18 off the NYS Thruway. cute little college town with many eateries and things to do. also a nice new rail trail for those who prefer flat ground for biking

Samgöngur

The campsite is located in the heart of the Shawangunks

The campsite is designed for those who want to get out into nature, visit the park/s, do some hiking, biking, climbing or sightseeing and not have a long drive home. if you've never been, please check out some of the options here in the guidebook. if you have been there before then you will undoubtedly want to return! just remember, the park areas typically open at 9am and can get so crowded (especially on sunny, weekend days) that you could get turned away just a few hours later because parking is at capacity. so plan ahead. if you want to hike you may need to get there EARLY!

Camp much?

for folks who are wondering what to bring, here are a few tips and helpful hints. we have outfitted the campsite with as much stuff as we could manage so that you can pack light and not have to fuss over buying or bringing all kinds of gear. there is an extensive list of gear at the site so i'll try to be brief and give a list of things that guests should bring. -sleeping bags /sleeping mats/ bedding -flashlights. (yes i know you have one on your phone but bring a real one) -food -ice -bug spray (if you use it) -lighter/matches -extra water -soap -firewood (optional) -garbage bags

Closest grocery stores

bring food and ice, we've got the rest covered. if you're heading NORTH to our campsite then you'll likely get off the Thruway at Exit 18 new paltz. that's your best bet and last stop for a real grocery store. Shoprite and Stop and Shop are just off the exit at the top of the hill. for those of you who want more organic options check out "Health and Nutrition" health food store in the Stop and Shop plaza. if you're traveling SOUTH and getting off exit 19, the most en route option is Emanuell's / My town marketplace in stone ridge. Peter's Market in Napanoch is 15min from camp

Bring bikes if you've got them. if not, consider renting

there are over 50 miles of amazing trails through the various parks and preserves. a great way to cover a lot of ground and visit the most memorable places is on a bike. the trails are mostly well maintained carriage roads which are a joy to ride on a bike. Additionally, swimming can get quite crowded at the main swimming area at Lake Minnewaska but NOT so at the larger and more remote Lake Awosting. that's because it's about 3 miles away which would make for a long round trip hike but a quick cruise on a bike. consider bringing bikes or renting from one of the shops in New Paltz
