Come experience the "Switzerland of America"
Whether discovering outdoor recreation in the Lehigh Gorge or enjoying the town’s shops and eateries, Jim Thorpe is unique and that’s why so many people come back. You can ride a bike, go whitewater rafting, hike the trails or just walk around the shops, and eat at great restaurants downtown. Visit Mauch Chunk Lake in the surrounding area for other outdoor activities.
In an authentic town such as this, it's no surprise there are many historical attractions. The Asa Packer Mansion and Harry Packer Mansion are two museums you'll want to visit. Also, touring the Old Jail Museum with the handprint on the wall is a must-see.
Seasonal and holiday events are also a big draw in town. While visiting the Poconos, things to do in Jim Thorpe aren't hard to find.

I would suggest making reservations in advance as the place gets busy and the wait is sometimes over an hour

Shades of Death Trail is a 2.2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Lake Harmony that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and bird watching and is best used from March until October.
