This is about one block from the cottage, great place to people watch, ride bikes on the bike path, check out the weight lifters at Muscle Beach, visit the spot where they filmed Baywatch for years. Also some inexpensive souvenir shops

Great place for shopping, eating, and movies! Very close to the Santa Monica Pier which is a fun place to take kids, also close to Tongva Park- another kid pleaser. You'll find super high-end shops in Santa Monica Place and less expensive shops just across the street in the equally wonderful Third Street Promenade.

This is a pretty cool spot- I have to say, it's one of my favorite spots to shop and eat and see movies. Just unique and charming. Also right next to Farmers Market, which is nothing like a real Farmers Market- it's all shops and places to eat. But is a cool old part of LA history.

A MUST for Serious shoppers. Amazing and gigantic outdoor mall with restaurants, movie theaters, tons of outdoor space for the non-shoppers. This is my GO-TO place for shopping on the Westside.

Bike to the Pier and the kids will love you for it! Rides, food, games- it's got all that and more. Great photo ops, great little kids roller coaster, a whole section for little ones too.

These are not the most expensive but still great and close by. Also don't miss "First Fridays" on Abbot Kinney Blvd., LA's Premier Food Truck event. Go hungry! They take the entire street and turn it into a Gourmet Food Truckie's heaven.

Formerly a bodega, the spot is half bottle shop and half wine bar; folks come both for the cozy atmosphere and the excellent wine choices. (The recommendations — say, an Albariño with a crisp acidity on the tongue — hold up as well.) One of the best tables in the house is actually a giant stump, trucked down from Oregon. It gives a view of the kitchen!
