Restaurants I love

SLC Eatery. [vegan and gluten-free options available] This restaurant is a chef-owned establishment dishing up modern American fare located only 0.7 miles from the Airbnb. They serve upscale small and shareable plates for and a banging brunch on the weekend. They also have a unique wine menu that features several all-natural winemakers in the US, and I always enjoy their changing cocktail menu.

HSL. [vegan and gluten-free options available] This modern American restaurant is also a popular, downtown, chef-owned/operated establishment that is well-loved in SLC. HSL stands for Handle Salt Lake – its sister restaurant is HANDLE in Park City which is easily one of the more popular restaurants in Park City for several years now. Much like SLC Eatery, you can expect a menu of shareable plates and don’t miss out on the whiskey caramel pudding (named one of the best desserts in the nation).

Arlo. New restaurant on Capitol Hill serving modern cuisine with creativity, passion, and local ingredients. I haven’t actually tried this place yet, but I’ve heard nothing but great things. I wanted to recommend it, because not only does the food look great but I really love the neighborhood where it is located. That neighborhood is a fun place to just walk around and look at all the unique old houses, too.

Mint tapas and sushi. This is my personal favorite when it comes to Japanese food and sushi in the valley. It is a bit of a drive to either of their two locations (Sandy and Cottonwood Heights), but the quality of the dishes for the price is really hard to beat. I usually like to order a spattering of Chef Soy’s small plates (favorites include the jalapeno Hamachi, Pacific black cod, salmon belly, and the scallops…oh and the Ube for dessert!). If you are in town on a Tuesday, you can book ahead for the 10-course tasting menu that includes a wine pairing for only $60. (I know. Like I said, the prices are hard to beat!).

Takashi. If you’re looking for Japanese small plates and sushi downtown, Takashi has been at the top of the list for best SLC restaurants for a while now. It is pricier than Mint, but it is located in the heart of downtown and has been voted Utah’s Best Sushi Restaurant for years running. (I know. Sushi in the dessert seems like a strange recommendation, but these two restaurants do seafood right!)

Crown Burger. My personal favorite fast food join in SLC. There isn’t a week that goes by that I haven’t had Crown Burger. This is a hamburger fast food restaurant chain started in SLC back in the 70s, and is known for their signature “Crown Burger” which is a cheeseburger topped with hot pastrami. But honestly everything on their large menu is so tasty! I’m a huge fan of their gyros. You just have to trust me on this one!

Lucky 13. So, this place might be tied in my heart for best burger in SLC. Lucky 13 is licensed technically as a bar here (you’ll need your ID to get in), but it is famous for it’s tasty burgers. Plus, it’s just a 0.6-mile walk from the Airbnb! You really can’t go wrong with whichever burger you order, and you know it’s good when it arrives in a plastic basket with a pile of hot garlic fries or onion rings. Be aware…this place can get pretty hopping so I would recommend calling ahead to get a gauge on if there’s a wait or not.

Red Iguana. If you’ve googled where to eat in SLC, I guarantee Red Iguana has popped up on the list. This is a bustling, colorful place for Mexican food in downtown SLC. You can also arrive there by train, which makes it convenient as a traveler. Red Iguana makes several kinds of its own mole (which I find impressive) and has something for everyone on its menu. This is also a great option for families or those who are looking for a casual meal where you’re guaranteed to never leave hungry.

Park Café. [Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch] This brunch place is a staple in SLC, and it’s conveniently located at the entrance of Liberty Park (hence the name). This is only a 0.8-mile walk from the Airbnb and would be a great day option so you can walk around Liberty Park before/after your meal. Liberty Park is also home to Tracy Aviary and hosts SLC’s farmer’s market on the weekends.

Shanghai Café. [Take-out right across the street. Vegan and gluten-free options] You can see this restaurant from the sidewalk in front of the Airbnb. It has an extensive list of Asian food and is a popular restaurant for vegan diners. I like this as an easy take-out option if you’re looking to stay home and watch a movie or hang out in the backyard.

One More Noodle House. [My favorite take-out!!] This little place is located off State street in a small version of a Chinatown (right next to an Asian market/grocery store which is also awesome!). Everything I have ordered from this place never takes longer than 10 minutes and is always very, very tasty. My personal favorite right now is the braised pork rib ramen. My Japanese friend who is a chef-de-cuisine here in Salt Lake recommended this place to me and I’ve been frequenting their take-out menu ever since.

Bombay House. [Vegan options available…and okay this might be tied as my favorite take-out actually]. This large and bustling restaurant serves authentic, Bombay and Indian cuisine, and I haven’t ordered anything I haven’t loved from Bombay House. They even make it really spicy, which to be honest is a hard thing to find in SLC.

Tosh’s Ramen. This is probably one of the most well-known ramen spots in Salt Lake City. Tosh has been making ramen in Salt Lake City for a long time now, and I really love the no-frills atmosphere of his restaurant. This is also a great option for a quick and delicious meal because it’s only 0.3 miles from the Airbnb. However, if I'm being honest I would still choose One More Noodle House over Tosh's Ramen in terms of who makes a tastier noodle dish.

Fillings & Emulsions. [Bakery within walking distance] I stumbled into this bakery one morning when I was craving a croissant and I’m so glad I found it! They have everything from pastries to meat pies and sandwiches to macarons and petit gâteaux to homemade gelato. The owner has been working as a pastry chef for decades and even won the American Culinary Federation Pastry Chef of the year back in 2021. And again, this is a great option because it’s within walking distance of the Airbnb at only 0.4 miles away.

Sweet Tooth Fairy. [Won cupcake wars on Food Network!!!] All I hear people say about this place is that it is hands down the best cupcake they have ever had in their lives. My friend who is a head chef in Sandy said he didn’t even know cupcakes could taste like that. Admittedly, I haven’t tried them out yet, but I would love to hear what you guys have to say if you try it out!!
