This huge park within the heart of the city not only offers a real wilderness but from the top of the peak, and even from Salisbury Crags the views of Edinburgh are unbeatable. A bit further from the flat so you can jump on the no. 5 bus and get off at the Commonwealt Pool, or you can walk through the Grange away from busy roads.

The museum hosts Scotland's national collection and after it's extension by Scottish Architects Benson & Forsyth it's a joy to visit. One half is a typical Victorian grand salle with the chambers accessed around the galleries, the newer half an experiential journey through a series of amazing spaces to the roof terrace. A great visit regardless of whether you are interested in architecture or history - head for the roof terrace.
