Coffee
Alimentari is the closest thing we have to visiting Italy in Paddington, with great coffee, sandwiches, pasta, antipasti and salads. It is run by Lorraine, who is a Paddington icon and a beautiful bunch of friendly staff. Not open on Sunday, so it's a must on Saturday (and pretty much every other day). Located in William Street, which is a must visit in itself; you will feel like a local sitting on the stone benches outside the cafe and watching Paddington go by.

Not Just Coffee isn't easy to find, but it's worth the effort. Their muffins of the day are almost always excellent (my personal favorite is Sunday's dark chocolate, cherry and apple) and the staff are very friendly. They also have some great breakfast options, and are dog friendly too.

You can book on line and kids are welcome (though I'd recommend an early session as it does get busy and noisy when it's later).

A great place for Thai-inspired Asian food that's delicious. It does get busy though, so best to book if you want a table. You can also call for take away and eat it at the cottage. An easy 5 minute walk from Farthing Cottage.

Really excellent Mexican food that's well priced with big atmosphere. Good to go early with kids (when they often have a deal on tacos) and later for adults who don't mind a bit of noise. Super close to Farthing Cottage - about 5 minutes walk.

This is a great bar and restaurant that feels pretty close to Italy. The food is excellent (the tiramisu is especially good), with great service and wonderful atmosphere. Super busy so you may have to wait for a table but it is worth it. Plus it's an other easy walk from Farthing Cottage (5 minutes tops).

Super busy so you may have to wait for a table but it is worth it. Plus it's an other easy walk from Farthing Cottage (5 minutes tops).
Arthur's is a bit of a Paddington institution, with great pizza, pasta and salad at affordable prices. There's also lots of seating, so you can usually find a table and service is fast. Great spot for an early family dinner or a late night supper after a movie.

Barbetta is a great place for pretty much any meal for those of you who like Italian inspired food. They also do pasta making classes, great coffee and excellent Italian style biscuits and pastries. You might struggle to get a table if you arrive right on meal times, and you can't book for small groups, but it's worth a shot if you don't mind waiting a little bit. And if your dining solo, there's an Italian style bar where you can eat your meal alone but still feel the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. The staff are also very friendly and the food quality is ever reliable.

Highly recommended for a night in.

Centennial Park is about 10 minutes walk from Farthing Cottage and has lots of things to do and places to eat and drink. There is a great running track and bike riding path (you can hire bikes in the park during regular hours) in the park, and plenty of shady places where you can throw down a rug and have a picnic. There are also multiple cafes and eating spots in the park where you can eat breakfast and lunch. The Wild Play playground is a special treat for kids (and their parents) and is definitely worth a visit if you're traveling with kids.

Groceries, Fresh Produce & Bread
This is a top notch little supermarket is about 2 minutes from the cottage with lovely staff and an excellent variety of fresh produce, bread, groceries, a deli, cheese room (!) and even a bottle shop. This IGA saved our lives during COVID and the community has returned the favour by doing much more of their regular shopping at this lovely little local supermarket. That means the produce is usually pretty fresh and appetizing. If you need provisions for your stay, this should definitely be your first port of call.

This IGA saved our lives during COVID and the community has returned the favour by doing much more of their regular shopping at this lovely little local supermarket. That means the produce is usually pretty fresh and appetizing. If you need provisions for your stay, this should definitely be your first port of call.

This chocolate shop is a must visit when in Paddington (especially over Easter when they do a beautiful window display with the loveliest Easter eggs you've ever seen!). It is a family run business, so the level of care and service is first class. The chocolate covered snakes are definitely worth a try. Five minutes walk from Farthing Cottage.

Max Brenner used to have a chocolate bar in Paddington (where Chubby Cheeks now is) but alas you now have to trek it out to Bondi Junction for some Max Magic. An easy bus ride of about 15 minutes and up to the sixth floor of Westfield and you can enjoy the chocolate pleasure that is Max Brenner. Great for dessert (especially after a movie at Event Cinemas!).
