Eldora is a small ski resort used mostly by locals, which means it's less intimidating for beginners but also has plenty of challenges available for more experienced folks. Lessons for kids and adults are available as well as equipment rental. Nederland is just 15 minutes from our cabin, and it's the quintessential quirky mountain town. Eldora Ski Resort is there, and you will also find grocery stores, great restaurants, coffee shops, dispensaries (welcome to Colorado!), souvenir shops, thrift stores, a nature center, and the whimsical Carousel of Happiness. There are also trails and playgrounds, including a skateboarding park that is our son's favorite. Every March, Ned hosts the Frozen Dead Guy Festival to honor - you guessed it - a frozen dead guy.

Nederland is just 15 minutes from our cabin, and it's the quintessential quirky mountain town. Eldora Ski Resort is there, and you will also find grocery stores, great restaurants, coffee shops, dispensaries (welcome to Colorado!), souvenir shops, thrift stores, a nature center, and the whimsical Carousel of Happiness. Boulder is about 30-35 minutes from the Flyin' Moose by car, and it's well worth the visit. Pearl Street Mall is a fun pedestrian mall, with fun shopping, great restaurants, and street performers. It feels like a tourist destination but is truly the locals' downtown area. In the summers, it's lovely to spend a Wednesday evening or Saturday morning at the farmers' market. You can eat dinner there while enjoying a local beer and live music.

-the main branch of the library which includes a bridge over beautiful Boulder Creek
-Museum of Boulder, which is more than just the history of Boulder (great for kids, adults, artists, tinkerers, and nerds of all kinds)

We have lived in Boulder for several years too, so don't hesitate to ask for more recommendations.

A little over an hour's drive from the cabin, Estes Park is well worth the visit. It's a wonderful tourist destination, with fun shopping and tons of restaurants. It's also home to the Stanley Hotel (famous for being in "The Shining), where you can take haunted tours...or not-so-haunted tours.
Estes Park is most well-known as one of the entry points into Rocky Mountain National Park, and all that goes along with that - hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc.

Denver has so much to offer, it's impossible to list it all. Baseball and football games, multiple museums, a zoo and aquarium, Broadway-caliber theater, and every kind of restaurant you could hope for. If you like cities and nightlife, get out there and explore the Mile High City!

For just a few dollars ($3 currently), you can ride on your choice of 56 hand-carved animals. The history of the carousel is special too. You can read about it here: https://www.carouselofhappiness.org/ but you should definitely visit it in person to get the full experience. It's so much sweetness and brings out the kid in everyone.

We'd take them to Eldora and reward (bribe) them afterwards with the mini-donuts covered in whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate. It's also conveniently right next door to the Carousel of Happiness, which everyone should visit.
The coffee shop is inside actual train cars, and it's so much fun to explore. Indoor dining isn't allowed during COVID, but you can still go inside while you order. Don't miss it, whether or not you have kids!
