Golden is the original capital of Colorado! Home to the Coors brewery (the second largest single site brewery in the world). I recommend a walk down clear creek. There are several options for activities, including the bike library, tubing (during the summer), and plenty of great food options. Let us know if you are interested in the history of Golden- we have several resources we can share with you.

Lightrail Advice

The Lightrail is the best/easiest way to get to downtown denver. Get on 93 and stop off at the Jeffco government center (roughly 15-20 minutes from our home). Tickets are inexpensive, and you can buy a daypass to explore downtown and a decent chunk of the frontrange. The "RTD" app lets you buy and activate tickets in advance.

Check out JeffCo's Open Spaces!

Jeffco has many open spaces that are free to the public. Some really local ones are: Centennial cone park (seasonally closed for the Elk) Clear creek canyon park; a great place to see climbers. North Table Mountain; great views of coors and downtown Dinosaur Ridge; includes dinosaur fossils Mount Galbraith (towards the base of golden gate canyon); go early on weekends to get a parking spot. Lookout Mountain Preserve and nature center; you can see the gravesite of buffalo bill. The buffalo bill museum is available for an extra fee.

What to wear/pack- hiking/daytrips

Colorado can have unpredictable weather. If hiking or out and about, I highly recommend: Layers: carry some light layers, including a water resistant windbreaker. Sunscreen: The Colorado sun can be intense. Bring sunscreen, especially in the summer. Don't forget SPF lip balm. Water: As a rough estimate, if you are not from the west, drink double your normal water consumption when hiking. Shoes: Bring sturdy shoes. If rock scrambling, I recommend shoes with good ankle support.

Respect Local Wildlife

Local wildlife can include mountain lions, bears, elk, deer, lynx, bobcat, coyotes, etc. Respect local wildlife; if you encounter some, please give them space. Keep children and dogs close to you at all times.
