Here at Carlsmith Beach park fresh and salt water mixed together to create an ice cold spot to swim on a hot Hawaiian day! Great for snorkeling or pulling up a chair in the grass to read a book or to enjoy a lovely picnic. The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle can be observed eating the limu(seaweed) off of the lava rocks from a safe distance.

Sightseeing
This black sand beach was created during the 2018 Leilani estates lava flow which began in May of that year. It is beautiful to visit the new land created however we do not recommend swimming here as the current/undertow is known to be strong.

Kalae is the southernmost point in the US. Beautiful sunsets can be found here at the cliffs or you can observe the local fisherman reel their catch up off the cliff. If you have a four wheel drive vehicle you can journey to the famous green sand beach(Papakolea)! Otherwise feel free to hike just bring plenty of water as it is an almost 6mile unshaded hike round trip. There are local tours you might be able to hitch a ride with for a small fee.
