Great overlook 20 minutes from town. Want to say you walked part of the Appalachian Trail? It crosses through this gap and continues across the highway. 2 trails on your right - one is the AT trail, other shorter and have heard good for bird watching.

Tallest concrete dam east of the Rocky Mountains at 480 ft tall forming Fontana Lake. Produces hydroelectric power. Informative video on the TVA and the construction. The "AT trail" passes over the dam. Portions of the "Walk in the Woods" movie was filmed at the dam.
