One of my favourite places to visit for a city day trip. Edinburgh has some beautiful buildings that are steeped in history. There is plenty sightseeing to do in the city and it has some excellent bars and restaurants.

If you travel to Edinburgh and you are looking to go for a good walk, Arthur’s seat is a must. It is situated within Holyrood Park and from the top you can see for miles! On a clear day you can actually see Dumyat (if you know where to look!). Dumyat is the hill right next to Broom Farm Cottages. You will also get a maginificent view of the Firth of Forth as well as Edinburgh City and the Pentland hills.

Glasgow is a great city. It’s always my choice of place to go for shopping. The shops are easily accessible to each other with lots of nice bars and restaurants intertwined between them.

St Andrew’s is a beautiful town in East Fife. It is often described as a mini Edinburgh due some of the beautiful buildings down near the golf course. The beach at St Andrews is a popular day trip choice and never disappoints! St Andrews is around 1hr 10 minute drive from Broom Farm Cottages

I have a lot of fond memories of Crail from when I was a child. The beach at Crail, called Roome Bay, is a lovely small beach with an excellent rock pool which is great for kids who would enjoy fishing for small crabs! I used to spend hours here in my youth. Once you see how many you can catch you let them go again. Crail also has a very pretty harbour which also has its own small beach. Crail is approx 1hr 30 minute drive from Broom Farm Cottages

Anstruther is a small fishing town in East Fish very famous for its award winning fish and chips restaurant. The harbour is quite large in comparison to the other fishing towns and villages along the coast. It’s always a popular place people will choose to go for a day away. Often people combine this with St Andrews. Anstruther is approx 1hr 30 minute drive from Broom Farm Cottages.

If you want to see some of Scotland at it’s very best, Glencoe is an easy 1.5hr drive from Broom Farm Cottages. Winding along the road through Glencoe let’s you see spectacular and dramatic scenery. There are a few Munros up in that area too for the anybody that’s is keen to do some “Munro bagging”! The Kingshouse Hotel is worth a visit for food and if you are lucky you might get to meet some of the resident deer in the car park outside like I did!

Callander is a large Village within the Trossachs national park. It has some lovely shops and cafes and it is a great place to stop off if you are out travelling West for the day. There are some lovely walks in and around Callender. If I have been walking any hills out West and I have to travel home via Callander I often stop to get ice cream for the journey home!

Sightseeing around Stirling

Within a 20 minute walk of Broom Farm Cottages, the National Wallace Monument is a must see attraction. Not only is it full of historical information about the legendary William Wallace it also has great view of Stirling from the top. Even the walk up through the wood to the monument has lovely viewpoints. There is a visitor centre and cafe on the north side of the monument with a shuttle bus service taking you up the hill to the door if you choose to exclude the walk up

Blair Drummond safari park is an excellent day out for the family! I was there a couple of years ago with a youth group and I had forgotten how great a place it is for children. There is so much to see and do you could literally spend hours looking and learning about all the animals. The monkey drive through was my favourite bit!

20 mins drive from Broom Farm Cottages towards the Trossachs. Great for kids where they get to choose their own pumpkin in time for Halloween! This is a really popular attraction which only runs the the Autumn and I’m almost certain booking in advance is necessary

Dumyat looks over us here at Broom Farm Cottages. It is a very popular choice of hill for walking as Pendreich car park is situated round the back of the hill about a third of the way up so it’s not as daunting as walk as it first seems! It’s one of my personal favourites at the views across Stirlingshire are stunning. On a clear day you can see right up the Forth River to Edinburgh and you can make out the Forth road and rail bridges!
