This restaurant is completely run by a family. Rosa will most likely take your orders, and her husband Leo will most likely cook your meal. They are assisted by their extended family. Their chips and salsa are top notch, along with their burritos and the barbecue chicken salad!

The vibe at Rocking V is so fun, with our friend Victor Cooper at the helm. When you are not taking in the wonderful decor, photography and art, you can enjoy their fantastic foccacia with a balsamic emulsion dipping sauce! Some of our favorite entrees are Homer's Pork Chop and the Shrimp Linguini. We highly recommend the flourless lava cake!

Known for culinary artistry, our friend Chef Shon created this place to give locals and visitors an elevated experience. Each one of the shared plates is fantastic and truly a masterpiece! We have loved the Sego Noodles, the roasted cauliflower, any of the appetizers, and the scallops (if you are up for a splurge)! If you see Shon, tell him Tiffany sent you!

With a garden in the backyard, Wild Thyme offers greens as fresh as they come. Vickie, the owner, is a trained pastry chef, and her burnt almond chocolate cheesecake is divine! Some of the best things on the menu: Pistachio Chicken, Barbecue Ribs, and Shrimp Tacos! They also offer excellent Vegetarian and Vegan options.

Don't be intimidated by the weapon-wielding servers in this place. They aren't really packing heat. This western-themed restaurant is a go-to for American fare, such as a country fried steak or a hot roast beef sandwich. They serve hearty breakfasts and filling meals, and their rolls are simply scrumptious! Probably the most family-friendly full service restaurant in town. Owned by locals Mickey and Kami Houston, the restaurant started long ago with Mickey's dad, Joe (now serving as our mayor)!

Locally known as the Junction, this is the place to go for a really good burger! If you want the classic fries, shakes, cheeseburgers, and Coke, hit these guys up. Locally owned by our friends the Alldridges, this joint has been maintained well for decades. We like their sweet potato fries, their onion rings, chicken strips, and pretty much anything you want to eat when you aren't counting calories!

Three words to remember when entering Lotsa Motsa: Chicken Bacon Ranch. It is really that good. Their lunch buffet can't be beat for taste and price, and their full pizzas will be a perfect thing to pick up after a long day hiking. Our friends, the Snodderly family, own this and work very, very hard. You can reap the benefits of that work when you bite into their proprietary crust!

Have you ever had a croissant that was made from scratch, on site? Trust me, it's worth the $3.50. This flakey, yumminess can only be created in the huge imported oven you will see featured in this quaint place, owned by our friend Marjorie, a native of Belgium who wasn't satisfied with the baked goods she found here. Besides croissants, you will find lovely patisserie choices in their display case, all of which will make your mouth water! We also enjoy their pizza with carefully selected toppings (foraged mushrooms!). If you want to make your fellow guests in the house so happy, go on an early morning run to the bakery for some goodies. They open at 6 a.m.!

If you are health-conscious (in a no-nonsense kind of way!), we recommend this place. You will not be disappointed by their all-organic smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and acai bowls. It is always nice to eat something that leaves you feeling fresh and energized. Our friends Nicole and Mike started this lovely little place, and it has become a staple for many people. They recently added a sweet little patio!

This cute little food truck carries a sweet inventory of drinks, smoothies, breakfast options, and sandwiches! Owned by our friends who wear lovely homemade dresses every day, Sunny Creek makes an amazing cup of coffee (or so we hear- we don't drink coffee, ha ha), as well as a sweet Carrot Apple Smoothie (which has become a go-to for Tiffany when she needs a quick lift!). We recommend their breakfast sandwiches, as well as their Turkey Cranberry sandwich! The BEST part of this little shop: it has a drive up window (so if you want to get breakfast in your jammies, you go right ahead!).

There is no lake there, so we'll just save you from the imminent disappointment. The main thing you need to know about this place that certainly won't disappoint is that they make amazing cookies. Some locals will take the 45 minute drive just to get cookies! The Inn puts out over 1,000 cookies on a typical summer day, and we highly recommend Lemon Zucchini, Chocolate Raspberry, and Chocolate Parfait. You can't go wrong with any of their delectable recipes, though. Let us know if you find a favorite flavor!

This lovely body of water was recently wrapped with a walking/bicycle path. It is a serene place, where motorized craft are not allowed. Additions in 2019 to this recreational area were public bathrooms, a pavilion with picnic tables, and sand that was brought in to make the beach experience more approachable for guests. We love walking around the reservoir in the cool of the morning or in the evening as the sun is setting.

Not only is this place filled with interesting artificacts (including a very large collection of naturally fluorescent rock!), it has one of the best gift shops in the area. Admission is $6. Also, just outside the cave is the Moqui Cafe, where they serve wonderful acai bowls and paninis!

This trail will bring you to the top of the red cliffs that wrap the town of Kanab in love. If you are looking for something to do that: A. doesn't require driving very far, B. gets you away from the crowds, and C. provides spectacular views, this is the ticket! Enjoy hiking as long as you'd like, and then turn around to go back to the trailhead.

The lovely 1.5 hour drive to Bryce Canyon is a sightseeing experience in itself, as you escalate to the top of the Grand Staircase. Bryce Canyon is found in the Claron formation, or "pink" layer of the staircase, and its centuries-old "hoodoos" will not disappoint! We highly recommend viewing Sunset point, taking the Navajo Trail, and walking along the rim to Sunrise point. Other great points: Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, and Queens Garden. Ruby's Inn offers a filling buffet, or there is a finer dining option at the Bryce Canyon Lodge.

Our favorite National Park, hands down! Take in the sights as you enter from the East, enjoying Checkerboard Mesa and Bighorn sheep. Once in the lower part of the canyon, we suggest the beautiful Narrows (a gorgeous slot canyon carved by the Virgin River). Make sure to bring good water shoes and trekking poles if you plan on hiking through the Narrows! The river rocks are very round and slippery. You can rent poles, water shoes, and waterpants in Springdale, just outside of Zion, if you can't bring your own. If you are not afraid of heights, you can check out Angels Landing! Make sure you allot ample time for this hike (approximately 5 hours). Even those who are timid about the 2,000 feet drop can enjoy the Angels Landing hike as far as Scout Lookout (just .5 miles from the end). In order to get around Zion during the busy season (March-November), you will need to take a shuttle or hire a shuttle driver. Make sure to familiarize yourself with current practices, as they change often. As of July 2020, guests who want a ticket on the shuttle need to reserve one. Info may be found here: https://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/zion-canyon-shuttle-tickets.htm If you have time to spend more than one day in Zion, it would be well worth it! It is only a 45 minute drive from Kanab.

Formed by the Glen Canyon Dam, This recreational area has over 1,000 miles of shoreline, created by finger canyons. A favorite of locals, Lake Powell offers endless exploration (especially if you have a boat!). We recommend renting a boat, if possible (make sure you reserve well in advance), to make the most of your sightseeing day. You will be mesmerized by the contrast between the turquoise waters and the coral cliffs. If renting a boat isn't an option for you, you can recreate on the beach at Lone Rock or the Wahweap Marina, or take a Kayaking tour. There is never enough time at the lake!

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is so sweet and serene, as only 10% of total Grand Canyon visitors make it up to this high vista. Because it is more highly elevated than other rims, the temperatures are very pleasant and cool, offering a respite from the heat you often find in the desert. We suggest taking the Bright Angel Trail out to a lovely look out. Make sure to enjoy the historic lodge, crafted out of native limestone and Ponderosa Pine. Once in the lodge, you can rub Brighty the pack mule's bronze nose for luck, and try a Navajo Taco or a Reuben for lunch! The dining room offers mouth-dropping views of this natural wonder. You will certainly leave this place feeling inspired. Make sure you take a break on the drive home (approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes total) to stop and get a famous cookie at the Jacob Lake Inn. Another stop we highly suggest is the Grand Staircase overlook. From the Vantage of the Kaibab Plateau, you can see all the way to the pink layer of Bryce Canyon! Something to take note of when considering adding Grand Canyon North Rim to your agenda: It is open and providing all services during May 15-October 15.

This hike starts out leisurely, with mostly flat terrain. About 1/2 mile in, your thighs will feel the burn as you hike up toward the top ridges. This is a gorgeous, remote trail that brings you to a viewpoint where you can view all of Kanab to the North and Fredonia to the South. A nice option if you'd like to social distance and stay near town. The trailhead is just a few miles from the house!

VERY IMPORTANT: Not everyone can go to this place. A: You need to be in good shape physically. It is a moderately difficult, 8 mile round trip hike. This is not recommended for those with respiratory issues or ambulatory struggles! Dangers include heat exhaustion, disorientation, dehydration (if not prepared with enough water), and sadly, some have perished on this excursion. B: You must obtain a ticket through the BLM lottery. This occurs every day at 9 a.m., in the building behind the Kanab Center. Ten permits are issued each day. You may also try to obtain a permit through the online lottery: https://www.thewave.info/CoyoteButtesNorthCode/Permits.html With that being said, there is nothing like the Wave. There are things that come close, such as South Coyote Buttes, however the Wave is an iconic sandstone structure that is worth going through the rigamarole to see. We have been there several times as tour guides, and it never gets old! Plan on a very full, exhilarating, exhausting day.

This great store carries everything from sour cream to crafting supplies! You will find a good little section of organic produce here, as well as Vegan cheeses and dressings. We love the way our friend Susan decorates her store and keeps it fresh and inviting. You can't beat the price or quality on their loaves of bread, made in house. We also like their deli for a quick and affordable lunch!
