Special Events and Food

Get a feel for the city during the warm months with countless street festivals and special events. For events along the 606 trail, visit https://www.the606.org/visit/events/ Chicago has an incredible food scene! The Fulton Market and River North districts that host the hottest restaurants are approximately 6 miles east of our place. However, great food is easy to find in all neighborhoods.

Walking shoes and a jacket

With so many great things to see while exploring, it's easy to spend time walking. Chicago weather can change quickly during the day. I always take a jacket when heading downtown due to the breeze between the buildings. In case of rain, skip the umbrella and bring a rain jacket instead. Your umbrella will turn inside out in the breeze!

Free events, explore by walking, and Chicago Cultural Center

Chicago offers an amazing amount of free events and attractions. The Chicago Cultural Center is also a beautiful building, free to explore that hosts events. Find more options here: https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/depts/dca.html The historic architectural buildings downtown all have unique lobbies. The Chicago Architectural Center recommends wandering into the lobbies to explore their beauty.

The "EL"

The "EL" or "L" refers to Chicago's elevated public transit trains, even the ones that travel down into the subway! There are several "EL" lines, all labeled with their own color. For instance, the "EL" train closest to The 606 Stay is the Blue Line. It is sometimes elevated above street level and sometimes underground. Tip: Chicagoans generally do not use the terms "subway" or "metro" to refer to public transit trains.

Smallest stroller or carrier

I love raising my kids in Chicago, but the city is not very stroller-friendly. Pop up umbrella strollers or baby wearing are most successful.
