Some of my favorite places to eat in Manhattan.
This place has an amazing happy hour after 5pm where you can taste some of the best drinks and seafood Manhattan has to offer!

Jacobs Pickles is amazing! It's considered southern comfort food and has giant delicious portions. It's one of the busiest places on the Upper West Side so make sure you call ahead to make a reservation.

Do you want to have the best burger of your life? Many people mention good burger spots in all cities but this is legitimately probably the best burger in the world. It's not a regular burger. It's french style and is rated the top burger in New York if not the world by many publications. The burger is only served at the bar, and it's a small bar. They also limit the amount of burgers served every day so it's rather exclusive (I think they only serve 12). The burger is ~$30 but you will be a happy camper if you get to bite into one of these. Seriously. Ideally, call a day ahead to confirm when they will be serving the burgers the next day as weekends and weekdays are different hours. The sweet spot is getting there 20-30 minutes before opening. You should be the first in line if not close. There are exactly 9 seats at the bar. If you don't get a seat at the bar you can't get it. This burger will change your taste buds. If you can't get a seat at the bar, the dining room serves amazing food as well. Order the Steak Au Poivre Peppercorn and you won't regret it.

This place is awesome with tons of mini fast-casual cafes and great streat food. It's underground around Columbus circle.

Similar to the Turnstyle Underground but larger. Tons of cafes and little places to eat with a large selection. Love this place. Walk around and grab small bites from a few places.

This place has amazing sushi and is less than a block from home. I get the large sashimi platters with a side of warm rice. Can't go wrong with that.

This is right across the street from home. Great Happy Hour. They have $1 oysters and somewhat cheap beers and cocktails from 5-7pm. If outside that time, they have great lobster tacos. For brunch on weekends, they have bottomless mimosas for $15 and the best lobster benedict in town for only $18.

Some of the best sushi for an amazing price. Tip is included 15% so no need to add extra. They serve everything extremely fresh with perfectly warmed rice and already perfectly dabbed in soy sauce. I get the "Trust Me" course (~$35) with a bottle of unfiltered Saki (~$11).

Just downstairs from home, this is one of the best pizza places in New York. There are a lot of pizza places given this is New York (3 pizza places LESS than 1 block from home). It's a new spot but funny enough, there's a lawsuit saying this place stole a recipe from the famous Prince Street Pizza downtown. Get the spicy pepperoni square slice and check off a win for trying NYC pizza.

Rated top pizza in NYC by barstool sports. If you don't know barstool sports, they've basically tried every pizza in every city.

Drinks & Nightlife

This place is close to home, it's a fairly crowded bar but always has amazing live music at night. Pro Tip: You can call ahead to book a table by the stage. The only requirement is a 2 drink minimum per person. Totally worth it and most people don't know you can do this (even locals). Call around 7pm and confirm what time the band comes on. 90% of the time you can get a table in front of the stage. The music groups that play here are incredibly talented. Unique snack to order with your drinks is the German Pretzel!

Comedy Club

Best comedy club in the world in my opinion. You will need to make a reservation a month in advance. The best comics in the world are here and I've never seen a bad show.

Rooftop Bars

Press Lounge is the best rooftop bar and best view in my opinion. Get there early...an hour before sunset. Drinks are expensive like most rooftop NYC bars.

This is a staple rooftop bar for most tourists but don't let that turn you off. It's amazing midtown views and an epic view of the Empire State Building. You'll want to snap some photos here for sure. In the winter they provide red robes and igloos with heaters so don't be shy.

Car Service

If you're looking for a car service to pick you up, there are different services in NYC than elsewhere. There is still Lyft and Uber, but there is also Juno and Via. Juno & Via are cheaper than Uber and Lyft. Via has both private car options and shared car rides that are extremely cheap compared to other services. Via is also cheapest service to and from the airports.

Subway riding

Getting around on the subway seems intimidating but it's rather easy. Once you get into every station, you'll see uptown signs (north) and downtown signs (south). Google Maps has a public transit tab that looks like a train. This will guide you to the right Subway station. When getting around, it's important to know there are often local and express trains (skips some stations and is faster).

Citi Bike

Citi Bike is an app where you can pick up bikes and drop them off all over the city. There is a limit of 30 minutes for each ride. In my opinion, it's the best way to see the city. Get a day pass unlimited for only $12 and you'll easily be able to see all the best attractions in one day. The hudson path is an amazing bike route on the edge of the city that is super easy to ride on with great views. Download the app Citi Bike to use. There are also kiosks at most docking stations. You can ride on the street where the cars on too when you're in the city if there aren't bike lanes. This might sound scary but the cars are super attentive to bikers.

Homeless People

There is a decent homeless population in the city. Don't engage with them and anyone that asks you to buy anything just keep walking. It's normal and they will leave you alone. Walk with a purpose and you won't look like a tourist. You may see them on the subway as well, don't give them money. It's illegal to beg for money on subways and it only encourages them. This may sound heartless but the homeless in New York are well taken care of and there are lot's of places for them to eat. If you give them money, 99% of the time you're fueling their drug habit.
