Originally constructed as an open-air retail mall in the 1950s, Lenox Square is the at the top of the list when it comes to retail centers in the Southeast. Over the years, the shopping center has evolved through a number of expansions and renovations. In CallisonRTKL’s fourth and most recent contribution, the design brings the interior of the mall in line with the exterior and gives the mall entrance a new identity on the well-known Peachtree Road. The plan also dramatically opens up the food court to the upper mall levels and includes an exterior dining area just outside the interior food court, inviting shoppers to enjoy views of the wooded tree canopies to the south. The result is a retail center with lasting impact that continues to be a catalyst for Atlanta’s thriving Buckhead residential and commercial district.
