Ynyslas sand dunes are located slightly north of Borth and reach onto the Dyfi Estuary, part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve and home to many rare plants and animals. In the summer the dunes naturally transform into a colourful carpet of wild flowers including many rare types of orchid. Substantial work is carried out to sustain the area's biodiversity in balance with its use. Visitors are allowed to drive onto the sands and park near the Visitor Centre that has interpretation displays and toilets. A boardwalk through the dunes leads to the stunning beach made up of three miles of golden sands.

The Elan Valley in rural Mid Wales has been inspiring visitors for centuries. Inhabited since the stone age, the area became known for mining, religious sites and for taking part in the Rebecca Riots of the 1840s. Today the valley is famous for the spectacular dams and scenery. The nearest large town is Rhayader, on The Cambrian Way snaking through Mid Wales. Over 80% of the valley is designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), home to reservoirs, aqueducts, hundreds of animals and loads of opportunities to have fun. We’ve put together a few suggestions on how to have a truly memorable and adventurous time in the beautiful Elan Valley.

Hafren Forest was planted by the Forestry Commission in the 1930s and named after Afon Hafren (the Welsh name for the River Severn). You can walk to the source of the Severn, which is in a peat bog on the slopes of Pumlumon, on the waymarked trail. There are also waterfall walks for all to enjoy including an accessible boardwalk along the riverbank to a viewing area over the Cascade Falls and walks through the woodland to the famous Severn-Break-its-Neck waterfall or Blaen Hafren Falls. This is a lovely way to spend a few hours and well worth a visit.

This steam railway journey from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge is absolutely spectacular. The views are breathtaking. On arriving at Devils Bridge there is a great little cafe serving nice drinks and food and a super chocolate shop. The walk to see the waterfall is quite a steep one but well worth it if you can manage the steps

This is truly a fantastic walk with breathtaking views. There are two areas available, the Devil's Punchbowl, a short walk with some steps or the main Devil's Bridge waterfall walk which is quite a challenging walk involving many steep steps, but the paths are well maintained and there are benches along the way to have a rest. Well worth it as the waterfall is spectacular.

A truly lovely place to visit and certainly a great day out for gardeners and people who just enjoy lovely surroundings. The glass dome is spectacular and a welcome retreat if the weather misbehaves.
