These are our favourite places to eat and drink, mostly within 1–10 minutes walking distance from the apartment. And furthermore some other typical Viennese favorites, which we totally recommend. The food is tasty, the atmospheres are special and the prices are fair in terms of quality – all away from unauthentic tourist places. During the public holidays and on New Years Eve some restaurants might be closed. So please take a look on the internet before you start.

A small food market visited by locals, a Turkish bakery with fresh bread 24/7, and a range of small and ambitiously restaurants. Our recommendations: Wirtschaft am Markt (very good Upper Austrian cuisine, but in the evening you have to book a table), Basilicum (restaurant with catering and very good food), Milchbart (nice café), Hüftgold (probably the smallest pastry shop in Vienna) and Saigon Bistro (authentic Vietnamese restaurant with nice stuff an very tasty food).

Don't miss it, if you want to go to the some beautiful, some famous, some ruined and some funny graves on a walk through nature (maybe you will even see a fox or a deer). About 40-50 minutes via tramway Nr. 6 or subway U4/U3 and tramway.

Don't miss a guided tour through the Michaelagruft. This is where the emperors are buried right next to the plague victims. But don't be afraid of darkness and skulls! 30 minutes by subway U4 and U2.

Take a look in the famous Art Nouveau church of Otto Wagner. The pavillions of Baumgartner Höhe are part of the mental health hospital. The park beyond is the entrance to the Wiener Wald, the deciduous forest which surrounds half of Vienna. From there you have a nice view over Vienna. If you feel like going for a long walk, take a rest at Villa Aurora, a nice and very old Viennese restaurant.

Rent a bike or an e-scooter.
If its not too cold and rainy, its the best way to explore the city. The bike paths are quite okay in Vienna. Bike and scooter distances from the apartment: Mariahilferstraße or Schönbrunn 10 minutes, Stephansplatz or Karlsplatz 30 minutes.
