Our Personal Food Scene
Food that WE love. In Spruce Pine we mostly cook for ourselves or eat at Fox & the Fig but close by there are lots of gems, depending on how far you can travel.

We may be biased (cause we run this place...) but if you like food that is homemade and ethics that grow relationships with local farmers and sustainably sourced coffees and teas, there really isn't any other food options that will compare close by.

With not many options for pizza close by, we find reasons to go to Marion and work pizza into our plan. There's movie theaters, bowling, breweries and unique thrift stores. We prefer this to other chain pizza spots.

We couldn't leave this out, before 2pm there's a buffet (lunch) that will always be our favorite - the price and food are wonderful. It is an hour drive but so worth it if you're up for visiting Asheville. (1 hour away)

One of only two places we'd drive all the way to Asheville (1 hour) to eat... if you could grab some good groceries in town, hit a local shop or two and then swing by Little Bee Thai grabbing your food to go and save it for eating back in Spruce Pine, that's how we like to do it.

We order TO GO, get the "sidewinder fries" with extra dipping sauces, a couple extra caesar salads and if you're feeling wild they DEEP FRY oreos?? (a waitress had to bring us some for free to convince me... very good!)

Always rather quiet, play areas, creek, picnic shelters and tennis courts. We like to take bicycles and ride on the nice flat cement slab.

Between Great outdoor spots and artist galleries you could stay really busy... we are keeping it brief and pretty local with these few recommendations.
Linville Falls
One of our favorite hikes in the area. (under 3 miles full circle)
This is another really really nice hike, under a few miles and such a great view. Great for kids or adults.

With internationally known and visited artist studios and classes, Penland also has a really nice art store and a cafe worth visiting for a baked treat. This place feels like it always has something really amazing to see, the galleries are beautiful and the history of its origin is really really interesting.

There are endless nice walks/hikes in every direction. Don't miss this spot if you can squeeze it into your stay.
