The park serves as a put-in point on this north-flowing Class I stream, typically floatable from March to mid-June depending on rainfall, and is an outfitter and shuttle service for War Eagle Creek. A day of floating or fishing on these gentle waters is relaxation at its best. The park features three hiking trails. A unique flower, the rare Ozark trillium, grows here. Outdoor fun also includes tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, picnic areas, a pavilion, and gift shop.

The Battle That Saved Missouri For The Union On March 7-8, 1862, over 23,000 soldiers fought here to decide the fate of Missouri and was a turning point of the war in the West. The 4,300 acre battlefield honors those who fought and died on these grounds. Pea Ridge was the most pivotal Civil War battle west of the Mississippi River and is one of the most intact Civil War battlefields in the United States. Good place to easy hiking or drive through the historic battlefield.

America's First National River Established in 1972, Buffalo National River flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Once you arrive, prepare to journey from running rapids to quiet pools while surrounded by massive bluffs as you cruise through the Ozark Mountains down to the White River. Spectacular hiking trails along high bluffs overlooking the Buffalo River. Canoeing and kayaking also. Whitaker Point within the park is an easy hike to a most amazing point and view. This is a rather long drive of 90 minutes to the park.

Shopping

The heart of the Historic District, around the intersection of Spring Street and Main Street is full of unique shops, galleries and food vendors of many kinds. Since Spring Street is steep so visitors choose to ride to trolley to the top of Spring and walk down. But don't limit yourself to downtown, explore North Main St. and White Street and the outlying shops on east and west Van Buren (Hwy 62).

Cut & paste from their website. "A visit to Grotto Wood Fired Grill and Wine Cave is not just about a place to eat great food. From the beauty of our cave, the smell of our wood fired grill, the taste of our unique flavor combinations, the vibe of our custom music, to the “feel” of our wonderland atmosphere, its a full-on sensory experience." The Grotto is a bit higher priced than the other listings in the guide book but they also have a small plate menu with more moderate prices. They are one of the few in Eureka that take reservations. One of my favorite place to eat. 479-363-6431 https://www.grottoeureka.com/

Part of the Eureka Underground Mud Street Café is in a building constructed in 1888. Due to frequent flooding the street became known as Mud Street. Later the streets were raised and the first floor of many buildings became the Eureka Underground. The café has limestone walls, wooden beams and stained glass lighting. Over the years the café has won many awards for their food including in 2011 & 2014 Best Breakfast Around the State by the Arkansas Times. They have also been written up in Nat. Geo. Traveler and in Southern Living Magazine. To see the menu go to mudstreetcafe.com. Phone 479-253-6732 for hours.

Up stairs and a few doors down the street from Mud Street Café the Anex is rated on Yelp as 4.5 stars out of 5. The sister store to the Mud Street Café. The Eureka Springs Visitor describes the cafes facility as such, "The Annex features a section of the floor covered in tempered glass, allowing visitors to look down and see the spring that runs 20 feet below. The stream is lit from below so you can really see what’s going on down there. It’s relaxing and fascinating, and you won’t find anything else like it in Eureka Springs or anywhere else.

Someone ask me where to get a burger and a beer. I sent him to the Balcony Bar. They are reported to have great burgers. I don't eat them so it's all second hand. I can tell you that sitting out on the balcony is a delight and the people watching is top notch. The balcony is on the Basin Park Hotel in downtown Eureka and the view of Spring Street is great. Balcony Restaurant Hours: Monday-Thursday: 11AM-9PM Friday: 11AM-11PM Saturday: 11AM-11PM Sunday: 11AM-9PM Breakfast: 8AM-11AM Saturday & Sunday

I get a lot of left overs from here. Guest bring back their left over pizza and it's always good. It is atop the Crescent Hotel on top of West Mountain in Eureka Springs with panoramic views of the city and the mountains beyond.
