Falls Park features a rapid, gushing waterfall which flows over a basin of Sioux Quartzite rock formations.
Sioux Quartzite is a reddish rock which is quarried in the area. Many historic buildings in this part of South Dakota are made from Sioux Quartzite bricks.
At the Falls Park there is a few historic sights, including remains of the Queen Bee Mill and the former power plant.

Laura Ingalls Wilder is a famous author who grew up in a pioneer family and wrote several books about her experiences growing up on the Dakota plains.
The Laura Ingalls Wilder experience which I offer is unique in that I give a tour of the homestead and dugout areas, which is normally a self-tour, so this enhances the adventure.
There is an additional tour of the original Surveyor's House and House That Pa Built, in the town of Desmet, which a member of the Laura Ingalls Society will give you.

There is opportunity for fishing at Lake Vermillion. I can loan you fishing poles and tackle. You must buy your own live bait at the bait shop.
On my tours we can also stop at the spillway. There I will give you the history of the spillway and Lake Vermillion, which is a man-made lake.

City Park and Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is open during the summer months, and offers day passes if your only here for one day. There is also a playground at the city park. Both locations are about 4 blocks to the west.

Try South Dakota Chislic
If you are from out of state, and like beef, ask for Chislic at The Hawk's Nest Tavern, or any other local bar that serves food. Chislic is beef chopped up in small pieces, and usually eaten with a toothpick.
