If you don't mind a walk, Shapwick nature reserve can be reached on foot from Glastonbury (head towards Sydenhams Timber yard, then Amy's Picnic area, then Tor View Self Storage and you'll pick up the track to Ham Wall) Or you can drive via Meare and park in the allocated car park. The trail is beautiful any time of the year, but especially so if you visit between November and Feb/March, just before dusk when you may get to witness the spectacular starling murmurations (visit the avalon marshes website for tips!)

Shopping

You will probably not find another high street like Glastonbury- there is a diverse range of unique shops and places to eat. So many fab places to recommend- I suggest you take a day out of your touring schedule and set it aside for simply 'browsing'! But take your wallet as I guarantee you will find that quirky birthday present for the 'difficult-to-buy-for' friend, or something you simply can't leave the shop without!
Absolutely brilliant outlet shopping centre- even if you're not a fan of shopping! Pretty surroundings with plenty of places to eat, restroom facilities and parking. Street is a fabulous one stop 'town' for all your shopping requirements. Clarks Village has a wonderful atmosphere and thoughtful layout (read benches and foodstalls outside clothes shops for weary menfolk!) and a park for the littluns tagging along. It especially comes into it's own at Christmas time, with amazing lighting for late night shopping with mulled wine and chestnuts. There's also a great high street in the Street town centre with plenty to eat along the way x

If you're up for a bit of a hike, go over the Tor, down Stonedown Lane and visit Gog and Magog, then on to Middlewick holiday cottages, where you'll find a most delightful shop with local and seasonal produce, a cafe and day spa. Fill yourself up then carry on through the orchard, through Paddington Farm and follow the road......you'll end up back in town soon enough ;-)

If you fancy a few hours out of Glastonbury, hop on the 376 bus to Street. It has many of your more 'mainstream' shops, including the fantastic outlet shops housed in Clarks Village. Home to the Clarks uk shoe factory, Street also a fascinating shoe museum, right across the road from the heated Art deco style outdoor Greenbank swimming pool, donated to the people of Street by Alice Clark in 1937. There is also a sports centre with indoor pool, suitable for all ages.
