You may see lots of maple trees inside of the temple grounds. Especially, in a spot nearby the Three Gates is very popular with the saying of “what an impressive site, what an impressive site” by a famous thief Goemon in the Kabuki show. This is the best place to see marvelous view of red leaves around the Kyoto City. It is also worth seeing the garden of Chisen Kaiyu Style (pond at the center and surrounding garden path style) located in the Nanzen-In Tenjyuan In Spring, the temple grounds will also be full of cherry blossoms. The temple grounds are so huge that it is difficult to point out the best spot, but I am sure that you will be happy visiting Kyoto after you enjoys the collaboration of white wall, garden path and cherry blossoms.

After passing the Nioumon gate at the entrance, go straight at the West gate, three-story pagoda, Buddhist library, Tamura-do and Asakura-do and arrive at the main hall. After passing the main hall, Shakado and Amidado, you may see Okunoin standing at the cliff and the fall with very famous water, so called Otowanotaki. If you go further in a southern direction from the Otowanota, you may see the Taizan-ji over the valley named as Kinunkyou, and three-story pagoda named as Koyasutou. The official name of the temple is Hokanji Temple. It is located between Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and it is too famous for the name “Yasaka Tower”, so it seems that the official name is not well known. The scenery that goes up the east from Higashioji is a wonderful scene that cannot be expressed at all. It is also a place where you can feel that you are in Kyoto.

The townhouses continue, the Shirakawa flows, and the cobblestone road continues. Maiko-san can be seen, so it is the best spot to enjoy the emotions of Kyoto. The light up of the cherry blossoms in spring is really wonderful, the number of cherry blossoms is about 40, and there are not many. It is a special place where you can.

Kennin-ji holds various cultural properties / national treasures and exhibits in the library, such as the folding screen of “Fujin Raijin” made by Soutatsu Tawaraya representing Rin group of painters. Furthermore, the barrier picture of “Unryu-zu” made by Yusyo Kaihou is exhibited in the residence of elders. We recommend you the “Daiyu-en” the dry garden style in the residence of elders and “Choon-tei” in the court as hot spots. Especially, “Choon-tei” show various expression in seasons and you may see wonderful scenery of red leaves in the Autumn. At the ceiling of lecture hall, “Souryu-zu” (picture of a dragon) made by Atsushi Koizumi is painted. It is worth seeing the 108 tatami mats large (1 tatami mat is aprox 1.82㎡) water ink paintings on the ceiling.
