Hello & Welcome to our neck of the woods! Where to go & what to do!
Broken Bow State Park- 2 miles from entrance of Southern Hills (where cabin is located) to entrance of Broken Bow State Park.
From entrance drive into park about 2 miles. At the first stop sign on the right is Forest Heritage Center. At front entrance is information desk & brochures. Phone number is 580-494-6300.
Trout fishing- Mountain Fork River runs through Beavers Bend State Park. Trout is released every 2 weeks into Mountain Fork River. There are many places to fish along the river in the park.
Hiking trails- easy to hard, short to long distance. Hiking maps beside information desk.
Forest Heritage Center- pass information desk then follow circle around & there are displays that is history of the area & Broken Bow Lake.
Canoes & kayaks- can rent either for 30 minutes for $8.00. These are located where you see the paddle boats.
Paddle boats- $8.00 for 30 minutes. (After all that paddling with your legs, 30 minutes is long enough!)
Beavers Bend River Floats- in the park and take you & canoe or kayak upstream, drop you off & you float back around to your car. The trip is 2.5 miles that takes about a hour but they give you up to 2 hours. They are open 10am to 4pm. The phone number is 580-494-6070. Prices- canoe $23, kayak $12, double kayak $23

To obtain a fishing license, you can go online to https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/licensing
or can buy at Walmart in Broken Bow or EZ Mart in Hochatown.

The Talimena Scenic drive winds 54 miles along the crest of Rich Mountain and Winding Stair Mountain in the Ouachita National Forest (pronounced Wash-i-tah). If you can resist stopping to enjoy the many vistas and attractions along the way, the route takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive. A leisurely drive can take all day.
From your cabin it is about 75 miles north on Hwy. 259. Beautiful scenery with Hwy 1 running along the top of the mountains. When going east where it intersects with Hwy 259 N, there is also Queen Wilhelmina Restaurant & Hotel that is nice to stop at. Continue east & at the end is Mena, Arkansas.
From Mena can go to DeQueen, Arkansas, then to Broken Bow, OK. It makes a big circle to enjoy seeing some of Arkansas.
The Talimena Scenic Byway is a drive that you don't want to miss!

They have maps directing where to ride ATV's that is very helpful. Also, for the closest ATV riding, go 5 miles north on Hwy. 259, from from Girls Gone Wine in Hochatown. At the bottom of the S curves there is a small sign stating 53,000 road on left. Turn & go over small bridge. Parking is past it on the right. There are many miles to ride ATV's on the U. S. Pruett's Food is the only grocery store in Broken Bow, which is 7 miles from the cabin. There is a small Walmart in Broken Bow with a limited supply of groceries, but not a full line.
If you are trying to save on costs, then I recommend to bring groceries from your home area. The prices at Pruett's Food are tourist prices.
