Recently regenerated by the Gateshead council, this is a lovely leisurely place to be both during the day and the evening. There are strolls along the river in addition to footpath bridges that cross it. There are bars and restaurants to suit every taste and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

Park
A beautiful and large park including walks, playgrounds, and a lake with boating. Very well taken care of, with landscaped flower beds, a rose garden, a stream with a quaint brick bridge over it in addition to huge lawns. For children there are playgrounds, a maze of tall green bushes and a pets corner at some times of the year. There is even an old aeroplane there for kids to explore! There are benches throughout the part and the paths are wide and easy to navigate. There will typically be all age groups enjoying the park at the same time.
Saltwell Road
Saltwell RoadA beautiful and large park including walks, playgrounds, and a lake with boating. Shopping Mall
Avoid the city centre and the nightmare of parking to do your shopping! The Gateshead Metro Centre is a lovely large mall with all the main chain stores like M&S, Next, Debenhams, Primark, TKMaxx and Boots, in addition to numerous boutiques and dozens of restaurants. There is also a massive ten screen cinema attached. There's a kiddy train that drives around the mall and comfortable seating spread throughout to take a little break from shopping. Outside of the mall is a retail park with a 24 hour Asda, Ikea and other big stores.
