Chapmanville is the northern post of the Hatfield McCoy offroad trail system and it lays in the middle of the devils den on-road system of incredible Cruiser, Harley, Sportbike, and Sportscar roads. Bedroom community for State Capitol and South Charleston workers for those choosing a dedicated country lifestyle. Bluegrass music echos in the state park on Saturday nights and rented schoolrooms, being played sometimes by old family friends of Bill Monroe. Home of the circuit preacher who baptized the local legendary Devil Anse Hatfield, putting an end to the feud and helping his heart find forgiveness for the McCoys. State Champion Tigers have a long history of baseball and football athletes in Chapmanville. A small collection of retail stores and big box stores just off 119 provides shopping options as an oasis half way between Charleston and Kentucky. Some day the King Coal Highway has been charted to complete the connection of Chapmanville directly to Beckley I-77 and that will make Chapmanville the crossroads of Corridor-G I-119 and King Coal. Until that time Chapmanville is the hidden gem.

Summer nights cool off. Winter is temperate, with less frequent snow than Beckley or Charleston. Summer 60-90. Winter 20-50F. Average grade of the mountains >20% - steep and rocky. Roads follow rivers below 1000’ elevation (500-600’). Peaks are 2000-3000’ and you see the expanse best passing logan state park on 119. Hiking is strenuous and deer are plentiful because Logan Co is archery-only.
