This trail is within walking distance from the house. It gets more scenic after about 0.75 miles. It goes up a fairly steep, but short climb. It eventually connects to other trails, such as the McCullough trail. This is a convenient option for a quick get-away.

There are two nice hikes that can be accessed from the trailhead on Shaded Canyon Drive - Park Peak and Black Mountain Peak. Information about both of these can be found online. Park Peak has a total elevation gain of about 1,000 feet and Black Mountain has about 2,000 feet.

This is a good trail for trail running, mountain biking, and easy hiking. It goes along a valley that is surrounded by desert foothills, where you won't find any signs of development. It is within a National Conservation Area (designated wilderness), so there are no motorized vehicles allowed. The trailhead is about 5 minutes drive from the house. The nearby Armagosa Trail actually connects to this trail, so it is possible to hike/trail run from the house to this trail network, without driving anywhere.

This is a great, easy walk/hike/bike/stroller trail. It leads you through a series of historic railroad tunnels, and eventually ends at Hoover Dam. In summer months, I don't advise hiking in the desert after 8 AM or before 5 PM. Bring lots of water!
