Places to eat and drink!

We are very lucky in Sherston to have three great places to dine out. The Old Swan Inn Cottage is even luckier that they are all within walking distance. Plus, there are many other pubs/ restaurants in the surrounding area, all tried and tested... in no particular order! Do let us know if you discover any new ones I haven’t mentioned!
A popular haunt in the village, really nice beers (try our local Elmer’s brewed just down the road). This pub always seems busy, but never seems to let us down – delicious food and recommend it for dinner. Bustling in a Friday night!

For something a little more, Whatley Mannor is about 5 minute drive away on the road into Malmesbury (or a very very decent (long) walk by footpaths with the last stretch along the road). Whatley is a beautiful hotel and spa offering treatments and a 2* Michelin Dining Room Restaurant as well as Greys Brasserie. I highly recommend even the Brasserie for a special occasion.

A very short drive or very nice walk along footpaths. Yummy food and a good local watering hole.

Westonbirt Arboretum Café – great food/coffee if in the arboretum (must pay to enter). The arboretum is stunning, a must-do!

Great 'trendy' stop-off for breakfast, brunch or just a cup of coffee if you are exploring Tetbury . The adjoining ‘Domestic Science’ shop spanning many floors is definitely worth a look too. There is also a sister shop/cafe in Nailsworth as well.

Just a 5 minute drive or a decent walk from Sherston. An unassuming freehouse, very quirky and special – quality food made with locally sourced if not home-grown ingredients.

A fantastic fish restaurant. They don’t take reservations on Saturdays so it is ‘first-come-first-served’, but if you arrive earlyish, about midday you will likely get a table.

There is a lovely cafe here with plenty of parking and there is usually a little exhibition on which will be worth a look around. On a Saturday, there is also an amazing fruit and veg stall if you need to stock up on any locally gown ingredients - say hello to Ruthe! Have a walk along the old railway line from here if you want to stretch your legs!

A gem run but a lovely dairy farmer. Great coffee, own organic dairy produce, bacon sandwiches to die for and freshly baked local cakes. Just a short drive from Nailsworth, but a longer trek from Sherston.

Worth spending a morning exploring here... definitely do the main attractions, but here are a couple of places that might not be mentioned! House of Cheese – fantastic cheese shop run by a very knowledgeable couple, definitely worth a look (closed Jan/Feb). Top Banana Antiques Mall – floors and floors of very reasonably priced antiques. Tetbury has more than its fair share of other antique shops too – all worth a peek. Highgrove Shop – has some very nice products inspired by the gardens at Highgrove. Jesse Smith Butcher – lovely selection of meat/local produce and on weekend mornings they cook and serve bacon baps to-go from outside their shop front – yum!

Continue on from Pinkney for a few miles (driving) and you will reach Malmesbury. Malmesbury has all you will require, with regards to shops, banks and amenities etc. A few places of note: Malmesbury Abbey – worth a look, there are a few parking spaces on the street just outside. The gardens are also lovely but you must pay to look around. Michael’s of Malmesbury – butcher and deli café that does scrummy breakfast/brunch, especially the sausages. The Summer Café – lovely café. Hobbs House Bakery

Castle Combe is a must see on any visit to the Cotswolds. It is a beautiful quintessential Cotswold village. It centres around the 14th Century Market Cross with St Andrew's Church, probably dating from the 12th Century near by. The village owes its prosperity to the wool trade.
