Bastrop is the oldest town in Texas. Founded in 1932, this sweet country town maintains its historic district well and has developed its riverfront real estate in recent years. Main Street south of Chestnut Street hosts several touristy stores and a couple of restaurants. One street over on Alley A is more food and shopping on the Colorado Riverbank. Bastrop has also been investing in its artists and boasts several art galleries and the Old Opera House presents local talent on the stage. In addition, Bastrop River Company will set you up and launch you off on a great river adventure, whether you want to get some exercise and paddle your way down the river, so just laze in an innertube with a beer.

Lockhart is a small town 30 minutes from Eden’s Cove. This nice town is not as well developed as Bastrop, but it features an old town square and they organize events around the square often. The First Friday of every month the merchants all stay open late and the town comes alive. If you are lucky enough to spend a First Friday in Lockhart, be sure to ask where the cheesecake it. And I highly recommend you have dinner at the Lockhart Bistro. Lockhart has a reputation for BBQ. This small town has more than its fair share of notorious BBQ restaurants. Austin Eater published a nice article about the four main Lockhart BBQ spots in June 2016. If you’re not sure which Lockhart BBQ to try, then google that article and it’ll give you the run down (https://austin.eater.com/2016/6/16/11954976/lockhart-texas-barbecue-where-to-eat).

Los Flores is a Cedar Creek landmark. This small dive cooks up a mean Mexican plate. They have a lengthy menu and a very spicy salsa bar. This is cheap Tex-Mex where you can get good local food fast, but nothing fancy and you might hear the locals discussing the most recent mountain lion sighting.

Lockhart Bistro is high end food. All the restaurants I’ve mentioned so far are good, but this Bistro is excellent. They could compete with any of the high-priced restaurants in Austin.

Traveling Meals

Great places to eat between Eden's Cove and Houston.
On your way back to Houston and looking for a place to eat. Consider stopping at Robert’s Steakhouse in Flatonia. Good steaks (even have a good Prime Rib) and sea food and they also serve burgers and a few other less pricey items. They have a full bar.
