Local waterfront park with arty outdoor sculptures that change 3-4 times a year. Great free outdoor activity when you want to take a walk, go for a run, or picnic.

This is the MoMA's more punk rock cousin, it's Queens museum annex. Housed inside a former school, which is why it's called PS1, spend an afternoon perusing through the museum's treasures. Don't forget to visit the gilded boiler room downstairs in the basement and if it is not raining the artist James Turrell cut a hole in the ceiling creating a special sky room experience on the top floor. The bookstore and M. Wells food concessions are worth visiting by themselves. A couple from neighborhood who also own a nearby steakhouse with the same name, runs this Michelin worthy eatery as an homage to its elementary school roots. Food and drink are usually divine and decadent.

Shopping

Very cute well curated local store with NYC and Queens themed gifts. The owner is very active in making the neighborhood more user friendly to everyone. If you enjoy this store, there is a card and stationary store next door called Lockwood Paper and a women's clothing shop (regular and plus sizes) called Lockwood Style around the corner. I buy all gifts at Lockwood!

Drinks & Nightlife

Last pre-Prohibition beer garden left standing in NYC is the Bohemian Beer Hall. It is legendary for it's Czech beers, kielbasa, and festive atmosphere, especially in the summer. There is frequently music, bands, and live entertainment here!

Food Scene

It's the best BBQ in New York City! Kansas style for those in the know. My faves are the brisket, burnt ends, and creamy corn bread. Great beer selection. If it's nice, there is also a backyard where bands often play.

Because ramen is so cozy and delicious. There are two restaurants with the same owner in the neighborhood, one on Broadway and 29th Street (closer to the house) and one on Vernon Blvd.
