Porters is in an old train station. It has a fancy, expensive sit down side with full menu (steaks, lobster, etc.) and a bar side with an AWESOME happy hour menu.

Kaleidoscope has the best pizzas in the valley- endless options for toppings, and you have to try the Rogue Ranch Salad. They also brew here and usually have a couple of their own beers on tap. Funky atmosphere, family friendly, and good outdoor seating. Expect it to be crowded- always.

Want good beer and great food? This is the spot. I've eaten half the menu and drank probably all of the beers and never been disappointed. Good patio seating downtown on the corner if you like to people watch. Good seating inside for watching sports.

This is my favorite brunch restaurant in the valley. It's worth a 20 minute drive to browse the shops of historic downtown Jacksonville, sample local wines at one of the tasting rooms, or explore the extensive Woodlands hiking trail system.

Literally the local burger spot... super yum burgers, fries, and tots at amazing prices. In the mornings, they have a variety of chicken biscuits. This place is walking distance in downtown Medford and always has a few beers on tap, too.

Drinks & Nightlife

Small, family operated craft brewery with excellent beers and foods. Hardly ever crowded. This is the kind of place where you can talk to everybody in the room. Try the coconut beer!

Long standing Medford brewery in an out of the way location. Large back patio and yard with a huge fire pit and lawn games. Dog friendly! I've never left here without having good conversations with strangers- both local and visiting.

This fill station has a nice bar and patio out back. It always has a large selection of PNW beers, and they have tap takeovers several times a month with food trucks and festivities. Right across the roundabout from Bear Creek Park and walking distance from the house.

Parks & Nature

You can hop on the Bear Creek Greenway ~1/4 mile from my house and be at this HUGE park in 20 minutes. If you want to borrow my bike, just ask! Plenty of nice places to lie under a tree and read a book or go for a jog along the Greenway.

Upper and Lower Table Rocks each have their own trailheads. These are short, relatively easy (but uphill) trails that get a lot of use. The views from the top are AMAZING, and during the right seasons, the wildflowers are extra special. Just look out for poison oak.

Grizzly Peak Trail (not very accessible in winter) allows you to make a nice loop with viewpoints of Mt. Shasta, Mt. McLoughlin, and downtown Ashland. The trail is about 5 miles, and the drive up is pretty scenic, too.

Emigrant Lake has seasonal access for boating and swimming. There are also walking paths around the lake. Not a bad place to spend a day when it's sunny.

Roxy Ann has great views of the valley with many trail options for hiking and mountain biking. It can be pretty muddy if we've had a lot of rain, but it's still worth the views, and Roxy Ann Winery is there!

Wagner Butte gets less traffic than some of the other trails mentioned here. It's longer, steeper, and a little more remote if that's what you're looking for. There is a little bit of a scramble at the very top to an old fire lookout with excellent views!

Pilot Rock is a short trail, but it has a scramble at the top- easily doable by most people in decent shape. The views are great, and it's worth the hike just to say you climbed this iconic peak in Ashland.

This enormous park in Ashland is complete with walking paths, swan ponds, playgrounds, and scenic spots along the creek for reading and watching the interesting people of Ashland. Try the "healing" waters of Lithia Creek in the fountains just outside the park.

Shopping

This market is every Thursday and Saturday spring-fall at Hawthorne Park- walking distance from my house. Tamales, gyros, bahn mi, pastries, coffee- everything is awesome! You can pick up local jam, honey, smoked salmon, jewelry, art, etc. Take a shopping bag and travel mug with you- most vendors appreciate it and give you a discount.

Paddington Station and it's sister store next door have nice gifts and trinkets, some locally made soaps and candles, and Oregon made/themed items. While you're downtown Ashland, check out all the other little shops along Main and in the square.

Arts & Culture

I'm not into Shakespeare or any of the other theatre experiences in the valley, but the Cabaret is fun! It's a dinner theatre with music and dancing and a lot of great talent. You must try the Dick Hay Pie at intermission.
