Rich with history, legend and lore, Mashamoquet Brook with its Wolf's Den, offers hiking, camping, fishing, and swimming for the whole family. The most famous feature is the Wolf Den into which, on a night in 1742, Israel Putnam crept and shot a wolf that for years had preyed upon local sheep and poultry. Israel Putnam was later to gain fame as a Major General in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Near the Den are the Table Rock and Indian Chair natural stone formations. The Indian Chair is a wide seat-shaped ledge. In the section that is now the entrance to Mashamoquet Brook State Park, there once operated a cider mill, grist mill and wagon shop.

Roseland Cottage is one of 3 Historic New England sites. Built in 1846 in the newly fashionable Gothic Revival style, Roseland Cottage was the summer home of Henry and Lucy Bowen and their young family. Prominently situated across from the town common, Roseland Cottage epitomizes Gothic Revival architecture, with its steep gables, decorative bargeboards, and ornamented chimney pots. The interior of Roseland Cottage is equally colorful, and features elaborate wall coverings, heavily patterned carpets, and stained glass, much of which survives unchanged from the Victorian era. Entertainment & Activities

Along with Durham, this is the upper echelon of Connecticut agricultural fairs. Great food selections, excellent Midway, accessible display barns, go-karts and decent entertainment venues all make this one of our annual Labor Day weekend rituals. The antique tractors, engines, cars and farm implements and displays are among the best of any fair in New England. The Woodstock Fair is like a smaller scale Big E. It is jam packed with food booths and has lots of places to walk around. There is a huge field to park in right across the street which is very convenient (not free though). They have the typical animals and then a whole building filled with different birds, ducks, rabbits and more.
