Keilder has some beautiful walks and is only a 40 minute drive away. At varying times of the year they also open the observatory to view the beautiful Northumberland skies. We have some of the lowest light pollution in the country so if sky gauzing is your thing this is the place!

Wallington is a beautiful National Trust property. It has a beautiful house to explore, a variety of walks to enjoy, park area, pond area with ducks, beautifully kept gardens and cafe. It is quite expensive in the cafe so a picnic can lower the cost to this day out. You can easily spend a full day here. Theres not much other than the house inside so this place is best in dry weather.

Wallington is a beautiful National Trust property. It has a beautiful house to explore, a variety of walks to enjoy, park area, pond area with ducks, beautifully kept gardens and cafe. It is quite expensive in the cafe so a picnic can lower the cost to this day out. You can easily spend a full day here. A beautiful ancient Abbey which holds many events over the year. I would recommend the Cafe in here as one of the best in Hexham. They often also have exhibitions towards the back of the Abbey and have a permanent children interactive exhibition all year round. Its a perfect place if your caught in a shower in Hexham! The gift shop is also full of local produce, gifts and cards.

Hexham has a mix of useful supermarkets such as Waitross and Tesco on the outskirts then in the centre has a range of individual shops. I would recommend Mr Wolf as an excellent independent toy shop!

Hexham leisure centre has everything from swimming pools large and small to bowling and soft play. Bowling is worth booking in advance at peak times. It is also worth calling the soft play ahead of a weekend visit as they do sometimes close for parties. The cafes there are reasonably priced. It is located next to Waitrose in the centre of Hexham.
