This mall reflects the ingenuity of Cantabrians. After the earthquakes, most of the buildings in the City centre fell down. As a result, there were limited retail shops. To counter this problem, shipping containers were pulled in from the harbour, wired up, windows cut out and repainted to be used as temporary retail stores. Genius.

Before the earthquakes, the Cathedral was the centre of Christchurch. However, part of it fell down during the earthquakes and as we are still trying to decide whether we should restore it, its current state is a reflection of the impact of the earthquakes on Christchurch.
