Food Scene

Leahi has creative local/organic smoothies, and all vegetarian menu, I love the morning mana smoothie(without maca) for a late breakfast, and the surf tacos at lunch! If you aren't veg you will probably still like it. Great for a late breakfast or lunch. Not the cheapest smoothies but very unique and very good! Also it is very close to the house.

$2 Taco Tuesdays! We get the fish tacos, and put a lot of the house spicy red sauce on them. Expect a line on Tuesday night, but you can pay $4 for another day and no line, still good. Close to the Diamond Head Hike. Get your tacos to go and eat them in Kapiolani Park or on the beach close by!

The best ice cream shop! Bubbies makes homemade Mochi Ice cream deserts! This is ice cream wrapped in mochi. My favorite flavors are sakura and coconut! They also have regular ice cream. Also well deserved after hiking Koko Head or snorkeling Hanauma Bay.

This place is probably most known for their French Dip Sandwhich with Pho Broth, they have a vegetarian option too! I like this at lunch if I am in the downtown area. The chicken wings are also good ..plenty of lemongrass and garlic in the sauce... Clever and Modern Menu, Vietnamese fusion I think.

They have coffee drinks like any starbucks or other place and the coffee isn't super special but the location is! A really nice spot on the marina to watch the boats while you sip coffee.

Have you had Burmese food? This is the place to have it! In my opinion....it is Thai food meets Chinese food meets Indian? So expect something very flavorful! Spicy Tea Leaf salad is my favorite.

Parks & Nature

This Botanical Garden is breathtaking!! Perfect spot to have a picnic. It is big, 400 acres of lush greenery! you can camp too. Also you can easily drive your car through the park and see beautiful plants and mountains, views are great from just the road if you aren't a hiker, it is a spectacular drive, if it is raining you can just sit in the parking lot and watch about 40 waterfalls trickle over the massive mountains. Get a map at the info center! This is on the East side though, a 30 minute drive, so do this if you are going to Kailua or something else on that side of the island!

This is right alongside the popular Manoa Falls Hiking trail. The Arboretum is often overlooked for the hike to the waterfall trail, but I think you should do both! The arboretum is STUNNING if you like plants. It is very well maintained, you can get a map at the info center, there are acres of exotic flowers and trees and birds! You can see a nice waterfall on the mountains if it has rained recently. It is probably the most beautiful nature scenery I have ever seen.Very Quiet and Peaceful Place. They ask a $5 donation, if you have it, its worth it!

Essentials

The grocery stores are a bit disappointing here compared to the mainland if you're a fan of fresh organic veggies, with the exception of strawberry papayas....those are very good and plentiful.

Very close to the house. And this is the spot to buy spicy ahi poke from the deli! Poke is very popular in Hawaii.
