This is a cheese shop, but it also serves wonderful sub sandwiches. Try the pretzel bread -- if they haven't run out. (It's a popular spot!) They also have good salads.

This restaurant had a fire in the fall, and they are working on re-building. They may open again in late July or August. Locally sourced, organic food. It's pricey—and worth every bite. Lovely location and an award-winning wine list.

Waterfront dining. Fresh fish, chowder, steaks, and burgers. Good place for gluten-free dining—but not a lot on the menu for vegetarians. Home of the Chubby Mary.

Beaches

Great, public Lake Michigan beach just beyond Van’s Garage, is a local favorite. The trail head to the beach is just beyond Van's Garage at the end of Cedar Street - downtown Leland. Water level is higher than normal this year. Good place to look for Petoskey Stones.

North Beach—at the end of North Street in Leland—is the best beach to find Leland blue stones. Most of the beach is privately owned, but you can still hunt for stones along the lakeshore.

This is a very pretty hike with a gradual ascent through hardwoods that in the fall provide an excellent color tour hike. A viewing platform affords stunning views of Lake Michigan. The land on both sides of the access trail is private and is not open to the public. 1.5 hours, challenging hike, steep access trail to flat 3/4 mile hilltop loop. There are benches along the steep trail.

The trail system here takes in an easy to challenging 3.3 miles. The 3/4 and 1- 1/2 mile loops can be covered in 2 hours. Moderate hiking includes sandy trails, stairs, and slopes. Info kiosk at trail head, benches at ancient maple. Beautiful octagon-shaped deck and sitting area overlooking Houdek Creek, built and donated by the Houdek Family. Note: there is a significant stand of poison ivy near the entrance. Take care to stay on the wide trail.
