Food Scene

“Please don't tell anyone about this” low-key, intimate City Park charmer – unless it's “a person who appreciates little treasures” – since it only has about 20 seats surrounding an open kitchen of just a few square feet, where an “innovative” married team whips up a “unique” repertoire of “amazing” New American creations for moderate to upscale prices; “great service” and a small but smart selection of craft beers, wines and cocktails help seal the deal for fans.

Drinks & Nightlife

This hip bar with a wide craft-beer selection doubles as a breakfast joint in the mornings, specializing in biscuit sandwiches and platters courtesy of the Denver Biscuit Co. From lunch on, it slings New York–style pizza (from Fat Sully's), helping to fuel a late-night scene in lofty setups that feature exposed-brick walls, Western decorative touches and outdoor seating.

The Bluebird Theater started hosting live music in 1994, and it didn't take long for the theater, built in 1913, to become one of the city's best midsized venues. With sculpted capitals, restored Victorian-style paintings and a vaulted ceiling, the place is as much a work of art as any of the touring and local bands that grace its stage. The marquee regularly lights up Colfax with some of the most important names in independent music, as well as lauded locals ready to make the leap from clubs to a bigger stage. In 2006, AEG Live took over the room and made significant upgrades to the production aspects of the place.

When the new owners took over Lost Lake in 2013, the timing was perfect to reintroduce a renewed venue back onto to the Denver scene and Colfax radar. A refuge for music since the 1940s this historic building continues to bring Denver an unprecedented attitude towards the growing local music market.

The Mall offers Denver's best people watching. There are 42 outdoor cafes along the Mall, making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat or have a drink. Denver Pavilions is a shopping and dining complex with 12 movie theaters and more than two dozen shops and restaurants. Points of interest along the Mall include the D&F Tower, a two-thirds replica of the Campanile of St. Marks in Venice that was the highest building west of the Mississippi when it was built in 1909. After dark, horse-drawn carriages and pedi-cabs carry people up and down the Mall, while nearly a million lights twinkle above in the more than 200 trees that line the promenade.
