La Croix Blanche: Just 3 kms from the property there is a Logis de France offering typical French food, freshly prepared. There are two 4 course menus from 21 - 32 euros which are excellent value for money. The owners speak English and will happily describe the dishes on the menus. Kids welcome. Lovely garden in the summer. Advance booking recommended. Opens at 7.30 pm. Closed on Sunday evening and on Monday.

Drinks & Nightlife
Excellent views over the River Loire to Amboise town and its château. It's THE place to be when the weather is warm for an apératif - the cocktails are amazing and served in Ikea vases! They also serve buy platters of cheeses, meats and salads (snacks/light food) but get there early as it's very popular! The owners speak some English.

Sightseeing
The International Garden Festival is open from April until the end of October. There are around 30 individually gardens designed by international landscape gardens following an new theme each season. Something completely differing and well worth a visit. The château and stables are also worth seeing. If you have the time, I suggest getting a combined ticket as all three are very interesting and there are restaurant facilities in the grounds: one offering a good value three course meal (organic, Italian style food) and a formal restaurant (haven't tried it but looks good)

Chenonceau Château has to be THE château to visit whilst in the Loire Valley. The "Ladies Chateau" is elegantly straddles the River Cher. There are stunning bouquets of flowers in each of the rooms and the kitchens are remarkable. Outside there are formal French gardens, the royal vegetable garden, a labyrinth and during the summer you can hire a rowing boat and go under the château! Son et lumière performances in July and August.

The "Tintin Château", fully furnished (a bit too much for my liking) and lived in by the owners. There's a lot to see and do when in the grounds: see the hunting hounds being fed (a real show!), a Tintin exhibition, glide along the waterways in an electric boat .... On your way out why not try the local wines (Cheverney and Cours Cheverney) - free tasting just outside the entrance.

Parks & Nature
A beautiful forest for walking, cycling and for animal spotting from the hideouts - and the grandiose Château of Chambord right in the centre: One of the Loire Valley's jewels with its 365 chimneys and multiple spires.

Arts & Culture
A small town with some beautiful medieval and Renaissance buildings. Walk through the old town, wander through the rose gardens near the cathedral and visit the Château. A nice, compact shopping centre and a variety of alfresco eating places in Place Louis XII. Horse drawn carriage rides for those who prefer to visit the town and avoid all the steps and slopes! In July there's a very good music festival "Sur le Pont" with a lot of different types of music. The firework display on the 14th July (Bastille Day) is wonderful!

Shopping
Tours is a city with a really good selection of shops, from department stores such as Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, Monoprix etc to smaller boutiques offering clothes, shoes, original items for interior decorating, kitchen equipment and more. On Fridays there is a large flower market in the city centre and there are brocantes on a regular basis too. To the north and south of the city there are large commercial shopping centres with hypermarkets, DIY and furniture stores ....
