Enter the far less crowded east side located 15 minutes up Highway 9 from the lodge. Checkout the Overlook Trail located on the east side of the tunnel. Park on the left and the trailhead is on the right of the tunnel. The famous big horn sheep live on the east side. Look for them as you travel towards the tunnel. Travel through the incredible tunnel from the upper east side to the lower valley of Zion to visit the museum and catch the shuttles.

This is a cave full of sand and arched windows high up on the hillside near Moqui Caves that is a quick and fun stopping point. The hike is short yet somewhat steep. You will learn the red rock hillsides are easy going up and a little trickier coming down. It is definitely doable for all ages but hold the hands of your little ones. The views are impressive and the picture opportunities are great!

This is just outside the Bryce Canyon National Park on the other side. We especially like this because you can walk through water on a really hot day and the trail will end up right in front of hoodoos. Follow the trail to and beyond the waterfall. You can also see Mossy Cave of course which is especially beautiful in the winter with it's frozen icicles but during the summer the hoodoos are spectacular and just a bit farther up the creek. Definitely wear water shoes or shoes you don't mind getting wet for this trail.

We love this short hike with a big surprise at the end. Park at the water tank and hike up the wash. The white rock will turn to bright red and you know you are getting close. Bring a rope if you want to make it farther back in the slot. There are some areas that require climbing a wall. With help and team work you can make it! Or just go as far back as you can and you'll definitely have the unique experience of being in a slot canyon. You will be able to touch both sides, the air becomes chilled and don't forget to look up! Of course check the weather and wait to hike this when there aren't threats of flash floods.

This is the place to join the lottery for Wave tickets. Good luck to you! You can also apply online. Some tickets are held back and offered on day of, so you still have an opportunity to get them if you weren't selected ahead of time. Tickets are EXTREMELY limited. Contact the visitor center ahead of time for the procedure. They also have a wealth of information on hikes for the entire region and are great at making suggestions to help you narrow your choices based on time and ability. We have collected nearly every flier they have to offer and keep these on the coffee table for your convenience.

This is my favorite hike! You get to experience slot canyons and petroglyphs. It can be very hot but the hiking is not especially challenging. Starting at Wire Pass is a farther drive in on a rough dirt road but you will have less to hike in the exposed hot desert. After you hike through the Wire Pass portion you will enter an amphitheater. Off to the left side you will see a little plastic stake pointing out the petroglyphs. They are remarkably clear. Beyond this the trail ends in a T. The left trail direction will take you to the not as interesting beginning of the Buckskin Gulch trail head. Instead head to the right and spend your time traveling the depths of Buckskin Gulch. Unless you are planning to campout you will probably not be able to make it to the end of this trail. It's roughly 12 miles to the end. Go as far as you are willing to hike back. You will need to fill out a permit before leaving the parking area and there are restrooms here as well.

Red Cave and Sand Wash are must see adventures. You need to book with a tour company. East Zion Experience and East Zion Adventures will be able to take you through private property to visit this fascinating slot canyon. The tour guide will take you as far back as you want to go. The guides will point out petroglyphs high up on the wall you might otherwise miss. You will need to cross shallow water or spider crawl your way between the walls of the slot. You will need to climb walls but they are more than ready to pull you up or give you a boost. Take your time and enjoy the cooling air of the canyon. This website gives you a pretty good description of what to expect if you want to go it without a company. https://www.americansouthwest.net/slot_canyons/sand_wash/red-cave.html

This is the best clothing and shoe store filled with hiking, western, young adult wear with all the best styles and brands. They have the best selection of Tevas, Levi's and Vans we've ever seen. It's 2 stories with anything you might need or want for the whole family. There seems to always be some sort of great sale going on.

This is an interesting store with a food truck during the warmer months. You'll find fossils and groceries in one place. It's very new to the area and increasing their offerings every week.

This is our 2nd favorite place to eat although it's a nearly a tie. It's all about the chicken fried steak and mile high pies! Sometimes we just go for a deluxe dinner salad so we still have room for pie. The atmosphere is fun with all the western flair.

Saylor's Trailer Snow Cones is located in front of Grandma's old white house parked under the giant shade trees next to Terry's Foods in Orderville. It's a cute turquoise horse trailer converted for serving snow cones.
