Paradox Brewery is a certified Veteran owned, independent craft brewery founded in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains brewing innovative beer of the highest quality. Our roots trace 40 years back to when our president and founder, Paul Mrocka, fell in love with beer and brewing in Germany while stationed as an army pilot. After a few decades of brewing for friends and family, Paul's beer became fairly well known in and around Paradox Lake. Those lucky enough to know where on the lake to go, could get in their boats and go grab a beer with Paul. At this time, he was was brewing 200 gallons per year in order to keep up with the demand for his tasty (and free) lake beer. The foundation of our beer is within the water we use which can only be found in the granite 600 feet below the Adirondack Park. Water that is so pure, it needs no filtering or treatment before we brew it with the best malts and hops we can find. We combine these ingredients with our passion for great beer and the result is “Pure Adirondack.” This 25,000 square feet brewery can produce 50,000 barrels a year using state of the art GEA Craft-Star systems along with a Westfalia centrifuge and a CFT Mfg canning line. Voted Best of the Adirondacks ‘21

Located near Adirondack, NY, these relatively easy and short hikes can be accessed from the East Shore Road, which runs along the eastern side of Schroon Lake. Both trails lead you through wooded forest to small ponds. Gull Pond has a section of cliffs overlooking the pond that afford a great view of Pharaoh Mountain. Spectacle Pond (the somewhat longer hike) follows a small brook for a while before the trail verges off toward the pond, which offers its own impressive view of Pharaoh Mountain.

There are several trails that ascend Crane Mountain, all with unique views of the surrounding wilderness. On the more difficult trail there are a series of ladders to help scramble part of the cliff, but the effort is worth the breathtaking views. You can choose to stop off at Crane Pond on the way to the summit. The trail head can be found in nearby Johnsburg off a side road from the Garnet Lake Road, which in turn is a side road from the South Johnsburg Road.

Tahawus: A Ghost Town In The Adirondacks Ghost towns are normally depicted in Wild West movies, but here in the Adirondacks, we have our own abandoned town: Tahawus. Located in the northern portion of the Town of Newcomb, Tahawus' history dates back to the 1820's when iron ore was first discovered there. Although it was twice abandoned, Tahawus holds an important place in U.S. History. The most well-preserved building in the village - McNaughton Cottage - is where Theodore Roosevelt was staying in 1901 when he received word of President McKinley's assassination and deteriorating condition. He made his famous midnight ride from Tahawus to Buffalo to take over for McKinley.

Our rustic stone-step and gravel trail features the old Sawmill Site Waterfalls, Artists' Gorge, incredible potholes and of course several surface caves. Descend into lighted caves and grottos with raging water or tranquil dark pools. For the more adventurous spirit, sign up for a guided summer Adventure Tour; a 3-4 hour spelunking cave crawl including a cave float! In winter, witness a magnificent transformation of landscape as ice flows form everchanging sculptures beneath the Stone Bridge and along the river. Snowshoe through the woods and return to toast marshmallows by the bonfire. Disc golfers can even play our beginner's course in winter, if they're hardy enough!
