Parks & Nature
Þingvellir the National Park is where the oldest, ongoing parliament in the world, Alþingi, was founded over a thousand years ago. Vikings would assemble there and work out their issues following the laws of the land. Þingvellir is also where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. The continents are slowly moving apart, visibly causing striking canyons and deep crevasses in the terrain as they tear up the surrounding countryside. Encircling the area is a massive field of black lava that burst forward and hardened in an eruption thousands of years ago.
