This little gem is less than a 5 minute walk from the house. It's a coffee shop, gelato/ice cream shop, bakery and restaurant all rolled into one. Tons of charm, wonderful staff and service and excellent food. It is BYOB and cash only (with an on-site ATM). Breakfast and lunch are a la carte (ask about the empanada menu!), and in the evening there is a multi-course "no menu" dinner, prepared by Lucas Manteca, James Beard nominee, part owner and chef. (Dinner service is reservation only.)

Beautiful interior, historic-feel, amazing food and great for families, groups, dates, anyone! Located in Congress Hall, a hotel that dates back to the 1800s. Reservations recommended. There's several spots to eat, including a cozy interior room, a bright and sunny patio, and our favorite, the outside patio. Brunch is fantastic here. Full bar as well and credit cards accepted.

The closest, and in our opinion, tastiest pancake house in Cape May. Not as big as Uncle Bill's, but still quite large, has a parking lot, very friendly staff, and lovely decor. SO MANY options on pancakes and much more. They added an outdoor patio last season which is lovely to sit on for breakfast.

Cape May's Oldest Tavern (dating back to the 1800s), this off-the-beaten-path spot is a locals favorite year-round and is filled with the real Cape May... old signs and photos adorn the walls. The owner Gary, is incredibly warm and inviting, there is a great bar (this is a great place to watch a game) and the wings are amazing. You can order ahead and pick up takeout. Kid friendly. Great for large groups. The only catch - there is not actually a "sea view" ;) Much preferred to the pubs and similar restaurants on the touristy end of Washington Street in town which get super busy.

Our favorite, tastiest little secret spot! H&H catches and sells to lots of area restaurants, and you can also buy fresh to bring home. But we love eating there on the picnic tables, looking over the water. The menu is simple and perfect. Crabs (a la carte or all-you-can-eat), lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, crab cakes, and lots of delicious sides including corn, soups, salads, mac and cheese and desserts. Plus pasta and hot dogs for the kids. Extremely friendly (they love kids) and well-priced. We love to stop here when they open for the season on our way into town to kick off the season :) Open May through mid-October. Rain or shine. BYOB!

ONLY when H&H is closed or sold out, this is our backup. It's slightly fancier and pricier, but also very fresh (H&H sells to them). Two Mile Landing has two restaurants. One is more formal, but the other outdoor spot on the right, which has outside dining (deck-style, covered and uncovered options) is our pick. Bigger menu than H&H and all-you-can-eat crabs as well. Full bar. Overlooks a pretty marina.

Definitely a locals' secret! Fresh bread every Friday and Saturday morning opening at 9 am! Located on the right-hand side when driving South on Sunset Blvd. Look for the small wooden cottage - or the long lines of people that form around 9 am! Sells out fast. Fresh breads as well as produce from the farm. You can find them on Facebook or Instagram.

Located in the basement of the lovely Congress Hall hotel. There is an entrance on Perry Street, or you can walk through the hotel entrance, ooh and ahh and the beautiful interiors as you pass the living room, piano bar and restaurant, and head down the stairs to find this place. It's got so much in one spot: lively bar, live music, fresh delicious brick oven pizza and salads, dancing, dj's and more. The Boiler Room is always a fun stop - not the best option with kids. Better for a date night or group outing of adults. Lot of tables and seating.

Cape May Point State Park and Natural Area meet the ocean and are filled with abundant flora and fauna. It's very popular with birders, and just a short walk or bike ride from the house. via their website: "Several blazed trails lead visitors to various pond, coastal dune, marsh and forest habitats of the park where wildlife can be viewed from observation platforms. This natural area is significant along the East Coast for its resident and migratory birds and includes habitat suitable for northern and southern species of fauna and flora." tip: Walk out past the lighthouse and museum, and up the ramp towards the beach. There you will see an old WW2 bunker on the beach, named Battery 223.

I added the town of Cape May Point, because it's really so special and lovely to ride bikes around, look at all the old houses and churches, and feel the history of the place. A bit of history: Among the smallest beach resorts on the New Jersey coast, CMP was founded in 1875 by Philadelphians John Wanamaker, the originator of the department store, and Alexander Whilldin, a wool merchant. Its population of 291 grows to 4,500 in summer, and it has 600 houses and two businesses, the Cape May Point General Store (now called The Red Store) and the gift shop at the Cape May Bird Observatory. (via the New York Times)
Downtown Cape May is best known for its stunning Victorian houses, shopping, restaurants and museums - there is so much to do you could never see it all on one visit! Some highlights we recommend: - Rent bikes or a surrey and explore (The Village Bicycle Shop across from Acme on Lafayette Street is convenient to everything and rents by the hour) - Walk along the pedestrian-only Washington Street Mall which has a wide variety of wonderful shops (between Perry and Ocean Streets) - Head for a game of mini golf and hit the arcade (Beach Ave and Perry Street

From their website: Fire Control Tower No. 23 is New Jersey’s last remaining restorable World War II tower, part of the immense Harbor Defense of the Delaware system known as Fort Miles, playing a major part in coastal defenses. Built in 1942, the tower was one of 15 towers that helped aim batteries of coastal artillery, stretching from North Wildwood, N.J. to Bethany Beach, DE. There are 99 steps to the top -almost half than the lighthouse.

A living history village where you can walk through and visit a “working” General Store, school house, blacksmith, bakery, printer, and more, to experience the first years of American Independence. Open in summer only, but you are free to walk the grounds off season as well. There is also a brewery on the property which serves light fare and is open most of the year.

Historic aircraft, engines, memorabilia and photographs showcased in a WWII training site which commissioned on April 1, 1943. This not-for-profit organization purchased the Hangar #1 in 1997 and renovated the 92,000 square foot wooden structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1846 and currently under restoration, this historic house was part of the Underground Railroad and is a significant chapter in the Afro-American history in Cape May. A former slave, Stephen Smith was a successful businessman and philanthropist, who during his lifetime was said to be the wealthiest Black American in the nation. He established the first home in the United States for aged and indigent Colored people and helped to free hundreds of slaves. The non-profit was founded in 2014 and offers private tours on request of the home and garden. It is also included as a stop on the Underground Railroad Trolley Tour.

Also called the Cape May Fire Department Museum (depends on whether you are in Google or Trip Advisor), this small but interesting museum is a great stop while in town. Vintage fire engine trucks, memorabilia, photographs, equipment, stories about local fires and the firefighters who fought them, patches from departments across the country and more.
