-Hands down best cuisine in town. Small plates with extremely fresh ingredients. The chef creates inspiring and tasty combinations without making the cuisine too fussy. You will enjoy if you like Mediterranean and Latin inspired food. Make a reservation in advance!!

I have not tried their food, but a lovely old-style bar. Old mansion on Millionaires Row renovated within the last year or so.

Wild Elder has really nice sandwiches and charcuterie plates for a quick bite. The have a lovely courtyard for eat in, or you can take it to go for a picnic by the river.

Surprisingly good sushi for a small town in the Poconos! They offer a variety of noodle dishes as well in a fun atmosphere. Only down side is lack of a good beer menu.

The Gorge (down the road in the little town of Weissport) is your best option for a tasty brunch. It is on the pricier side, but the setting in an old silk mill is quite nice. Their sister coffee shop next door is super solid.

Neighborhoods

Even as a person who loves to plan ahead, I really feel that Jim Thorpe is best experienced without much planning in advance. You will be most delighted by the town if you allow yourself to stray a bit from your schedule. Wander into our shops and museums, chat with the friendly shopkeepers, and most of all, take your time! Enjoy the imprints time has lett on this special place. These suggestions are offered to get you started, but they are very much our take on the town- you might find a completely different list of favorites!

History

It continuously blows my mind that more people don’t visit this living museum. Take a 30=40 minute ride through the cute village of Weatherly up to the anthracite region near Hazletown. Eckley’s is a totally preserved village of miner’s housing from the 19th Century. They filmed much of the movie Molly Maguire’s here.

History buffs will enjoy this carriage house recounting the engineering history of the town and the D & L located in Kemmerer Park. The docent loves to have visitors (it seems like a lof of people still don’t know about it).

If there is a concert in town, this is a lovely concert venue with an impressive view of the mountains and Beltzville lake. If there is no concert, grab a drink on their patio. Their food is okay but it’s more for the view.

The gentleman who runs the store only opens on weekends, but it is a gem of a place for framed maps of the region, photos from coal years, postcards.. he also has an incredible collection of dollhouse miniatures from when he bought out the property. You could spend hours going through the miniatures alone. So fun for kids and adult kids!1

It’s easy to overlook her little studio on the way up the hill on Broadway (right hand side of street going up towards 313 W Broadway- she usually has a sign out advertising), but if you like the art in the middle room, you may enjoy Yvette’s style of oil painting. Reasonable prices for purchasing prints or originals to take home.
