Local park for children to play, 5.1 miles from Escape to Miramar home. Tips from a parent: "Great playground - good for most ages. It's the "wood castle" style that is not as common anymore and kids love it. Parts of it are covered but I imagine it gets hot in the sun throughout the day, best to go early. Lots of areas to walk there, plus vending machines that let you feed fish, etc. Coffee/donut shop close so you can kick around there for the morning with young kids and they will be entertained. Tips for getting in there as it is confusing: if you are using google maps, it tells you to take a left to get into the playground but it is obviously blocked off. Go up one more road, take that left and you will see the underground parking area. Park there, come back out and pass the shops on your right and head towards the bridge that will take you there. It's a short walk but can be confusing. Note: there is a public bathroom a few doors down which is really convenient"

Why is Crab Island so popular? Sandbar hangout spots aren’t unusual across the world. Seems like any time you mix boaters and shallow water, you have a recipe for a good time. Crab Island is a little more than your average sandbar hangout spot, though…although that is how its popularity began. The shallow water is the perfect depth for wading or floating next to your boat while enjoying the tropical atmosphere reminiscent of the Caribbean. And the influx of Destin-area visitors looking to enjoy the area’s unparalleled beauty combined with the local businesses who set up to provide something unique to do create a tourist attraction like no other. Hundreds of boats gather daily during the warm summer months to enjoy the scenery and relax. Mobile food boats and smaller floating restaurants continue to populate the sandbar, offering everything from ice cream and BBQ to fresh coconuts. How Do I Get to Crab Island? Crab Island Adventure Tours offers a fun-filled excursion on one of their 34′ power catamarans, including unlimited inflatables, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, shelling & more! Your trip starts with a scenic trip through the Destin Harbor to the Gulf Islands National Seashore, where you will enjoy the tropical scenery and music as you sightsee along the way. The adventure begins when you arrive at the floating Adventure Park, where you will find inflatables and other water toys awaiting you. Enjoy Inflatables & Other Water Activities Enjoy bouncing on the inflatable water trampoline, racing down the inflatable water slide, and other fun water activities. Explore the natural grass flats on a kayak, glide across the water’s surface on a stand-up paddle board, walk the shoreline looking for seashells, and give snorkeling a try and enjoy breathtaking views of all of the natural beauty and marine life that the Gulf Islands National Seashore has to offer. Experience Crab Island After your fun-filled stop at the Adventure Park, you’ll return to the boat and enjoy the short boat ride to your second destination: the famous Crab Island sandbar, where you can relax at the area’s most popular aquatic hot spot and float your cares away. Break out your cooler and enjoy a cold drink while floating in the crystal clear, waist-deep water or wade around the sandbar and meet some new friends. Wrap it all up with a relaxing ride back through the Destin Harbor as you swap stories of your day’s adventures on the return trip. Choctawhatchee Bay is one of the prime paddling, kayaking and fishing spots on the Emerald Coast. At its longest point, the bay is four miles apart, while its easternmost and westernmost points can be as close as one mile apart. The bay is an inlet to the Gulf of Mexico, and Destin’s East Pass is the only access to and from the Gulf. With beaches on the south side of the bay and the coastal cities of Niceville and Freeport on the northern edge, Choctawhatchee Bay is a destination for paddlers and fishermen. Water depths range from wading on the shorelines to more than 43 feet, drawing in a variety of both salt and freshwater fish. Choctawhatchee Bay is often crowded with boat traffic, because of its outlet to the Gulf via East Pass in Destin, specifically on the south side of the bay. It’s recommended to stay in the bayous or inlets instead of paddling in the open bay. Stay closer to shore and obey boat traffic rules. The more serene side of the bay is the northern section, where you’ll find Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park and Turkey Creek Park, both in Niceville. If going to the state park, admission is $5 for a vehicle with two to eight people, or $4 for a single occupant.
