Exploring the Catskills

Food scene
Located 5 minutes (2.3 miles) from the cottage, West Kill Brewing encapsulates much of what the Catskills is known for — historic, natural, and from the mountains. Using locally grown and foraged ingredients, their beers are unique and fun. There are rotating food trucks for nibbles, otherwise, feel free to pack a picnic. Great for families and pets, and a real thirst quencher after a day of hiking!

The menu at Brio's is extensive, but you can't go wrong with their wood-fired pizza pies. Personal favorites include their Margherita and Wild Mushroom, both of which have a deliciously addictive sesame seed crust. Also worth trying is their Linguine with Shrimp and Calamari in spicy red sauce. Not only can the plate feed two, but they are very generous with the seafood.

Hunter Mountain is the second tallest mountain in the Catskills, and hiking it is no easy feat. Hunter Mountain via Spruceton Horse Trail is a 9.1-mile hike and is rated difficult. On the way up, the trail gets rocky, but it's also well-marked. This is a looped trail, and also works in reverse.
