A great wine-tasting experience and Duplin often has great live music. We recommend hopping on Groupon, because you can book a tasting for a great price there when they are offering a coupon. Duplin Winery features muscadine wine, a super sweet wine, which is a specialty of the area. We will have a bottle in the fridge if you want to sample before you go to the tasting.

This is a good 30-45 minute drive from our place, but if you want authentic, right off the boat shrimp, it is worth the drive! There are several shrimp baskets on this street you can enjoy, but Captain Nance's has always been our family favorite. It has the classic seafood restaurant vibe we all grew up with.

Best seafood restaurant in Myrtle Beach! You will see a lot of buffet's and other seafood restaurants in coupon books, but this is where the locals eat their seafood. You can tell it is authentic by the rotating menu. What is on the menu is what was caught the day before.

If you are into art like we are, we definitely recommend eating here. Original works of art line the walls of this beautiful locals favorite. This is definitely an upscale dining experience, so we would recommend this for a date night. If you are tight on a budget, it is completely socially acceptable to stop in for dessert and cocktails as well.

The food! And the views! Be sure to order a nitrogen cocktail as well! Best burger at the beach, hands down. And you can probably tell we are art lovers, so the art covered walls are a favorite of ours. The restaurant is small, so we wouldn't recommend this place if you have a large party.

The place to go for a great steak and a romantic night out. It's in a location that is convenient for locals, but out of the way for tourists, so you'll be guaranteed a relaxing dinner away from the hustle and bustle of tourist central. The food is superb -- it is an award winning steakhouse.

Sightseeing

This is a little bit of a drive from our place, but well worth the visit. Go early in your stay, because your passes are good for 7 days after you get them! It is a gorgeous garden that you could spend days in. We love taking our toddler here, as they have an outdoor zoo with animals native to the area and a great playground. Pack a picnic, or enjoy the restaurant in the garden!

We are from here, so anything Dolly Parton touches is gold -- but this actually is gold! The food is great and the entertainment is amazing for young and old! You will not be disappointed. We love Medieval Times as well, but Pirates Voyage is our recommendation out of the two.

Really any putt putt golf place you find will be a fun night out with your family, a golf buddy outing, or a date night, but you would be remiss if you came to Myrtle Beach and didn't schedule a night for mini golf. We definitely recommend night golfing in the middle of summer. :)

Drive up to Calabash for authentic, fresh off the boat shrimp. You will see all sorts of places in Myrtle Beach that have crab legs (not from SC -- from Alaska ;), but if you want the real deal, head here! One of our food recommendations is from Calabash.

If you want to feel like you've just stepped into Southern Living magazine, drive 15 minutes into Conway's Main Street -- Get the best cup of coffee at Rivertown Roasters (featured in our Airbnb), have breakfast at Shine Cafe, meander through the shops in Conway (Papa's General Store is our fav), have lunch at the Trestle (fruited chicken salad and house made chips), stop over at the bakery to take home a loaf of sourdough or some goodies, and then take a long walk down Elm street to admire the live oak trees. If you're still hungry, head to Bonfire for dinner overlooking the river (we highly recommend the ribs).

This is a great place to go if you want a guided tour of the beautiful Waccamaw River that River Retreat overlooks. "Come explore the beauty of the Waccamaw River. The Waccamaw is an all freshwater river that is approximately 150 miles long. It runs right through downtown Conway, SC and offers a wide variety of exploration opportunities. Kayak rentals are one of the most popular ways to explore the backwaters of the Waccamaw. If exploring on your own is not for you come take a kayak tour with us as we take you through the backwaters and talk about the rich history and wildlife of the Waccamaw River. If kayaking is not for you then we also offer private pontoon river tours. **Rentals and Tours available year round 7 days a week. Must call 843-488-3121 to schedule date and time. ** "

Want to make your own seafood? This is the place to go! They will also prep it for you and put it in to go trays. Best place to go if you want to try a "low country boil" or get some "peel and eat shrimp." It's our oyster spot too, but remember, oyster roasts are for all months that end in "r," so if you're in the summer, we don't recommend the oysters. Come back this winter and grab at least a bushel of oysters! We will have the oyster pot and roaster ready for you. :)

Around 31st Avenue North is our favorite beach access. Put Sea Captain's House in your GPS, and the parking lot directly across is huge and offers more spots than driving down Ocean Blvd. waiting for a spot to open up in the traditional beach access spots (although, those are all great as well!). It is also close to great food, and a Starbucks is not far away at the Caribbean Resort. All parking in Myrtle Beach is paid, but if you plan on going the beach every day for several days, it may be worth looking into a 7 day pass from the city for metered parking. Here's some info: Costs $30.00 (not to be used in decal-only restricted parking); passes are available from Lanier Parking in the Pavilion Parking Garage (843-626-7275). One last tip: get to parking early, no matter where you go on the beach. If you're going to have a beach day, it's best to get to your beach access early and stake out a good spot in the parking lot (under a shade tree is preferable) and a good spot in the sand!

Avoid Highway 501

We are in a great location as far as travel goes. We are centrally located between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach, and if you go up International Drive, you have quick access to 17 N and 17 S, as well as 31 (which takes you to the south end of the beach with little traffic). In short, if you GPS your way from our house, you should avoid some of the heavier traffic spots. One thing to note, if you are going into Downtown Conway, you will travel on "Highway 501 Business" -- this road can get crowded during commuter hours, but is not the major Highway 501 that we warn you about above.
