The Integratron is the fusion of Art, Science and Magic The Integratron, circa 1954, is located in Landers, California, 20 miles north of Joshua Tree National Park. Its creator, George Van Tassel (1910-1978), claimed that the structure is based on the design of Moses’ Tabernacle, the writings of Nikola Tesla and telepathic directions from extraterrestrials. This one-of-a-kind 38-foot high, 55-foot diameter, all wood dome was designed to be an electrostatic generator for the purpose of rejuvenation and time travel. The location of the Integratron is an essential part of its functioning. It was built on an intersection of powerful geomagnetic forces that, when focused by the unique geometry of the building, concentrate and amplify the earth’s magnetic field. Magnetometers read a significant spike in the earth’s magnetic field in the center of the Integratron. The Integratron is privately owned by three sisters who have been part of the restoration and maintenance of the structure and property for more than 30 years. Their focus is to restore and preserve the structure while sharing its amazing acoustical properties with the world via the Integratron Sound Bath. This unique structure was listed in 2019 on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service.

The Integratron’s Signature Experience This is an unforgettable sound experience for those who seek deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and introspection. All Sound Baths are 60-minute sonic healing sessions that consist of: a brief introduction to the Integratron and its history and sound qualities, 35 minutes of 20 quartz crystal singing bowls played live, and the balance of the hour to integrate the sound and relax in the sound chamber to ambient music. You will be resting comfortably in the deeply resonant, multi-wave sound chamber while a sequence of quartz crystal singing bowls are played. Each bowl is keyed to the energy centers or chakras of the body, where sound is nutrition for the nervous system. The results are waves of peace, heightened awareness, and relaxation of the mind and body.

Just outside Joshua Tree is a very unique art gallery. It is called the Glass Outhouse Art Gallery. The star of the show as you may guess is a restroom covered in one-way mirrors. But there is so much more to see there! If you happen to be in the area, this spot is super fun to walk around and look at everything.

City/town information
A BOOMTOWN DURING THE HEYDAY of “America’s Highway” Route 66, Amboy once served travelers on the western end of the long road from Chicago to Los Angeles. When the completion of the Interstate Highway System in the second half of the 20th century made Route 66 obsolete, Amboy, like many other route boom towns, passed into desolation. One of the original residents maintained what little there was left, allowing a few Hollywood movies to be filmed there, but at the turn of the 21st century, he’d had enough and sold the entire town. Amboy then passed through different hands and was, at one point, even listed for sale on eBay. The town is currently owned by the owner of the California-based fast-food chain Juan Pollo, Albert Okura. Okura has repainted the old motel cabins with a goal to slowly re-open the town, cafe, gas station, and motel cabins. Now that the cafe and gas station known as Roy’s is up and running, Okura had new neon tubes manufactured and held a lighting ceremony for the new signage, The service station has recently started selling gas again, with regular hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m, every day. The school, church, airport, and graveyard can still be explored by adventurous travelers who can handle the heavy heat of the Mojave Desert, and a nearby volcanic crater adds to the atmosphere. Come to town with your own water and a full tank of gas, in case Roy’s isn’t open. The only sound you might hear during a visit to this town is a train passing through and the occasional small aircraft landing on the gravel airstrip.

The Salton Sea is one of those unique parts of California history that has changed a lot in the last century. Formerly a destination for Hollywood’s elite to play at, now this park is a much more desolate and a somewhat smelly place that gets a lot fewer visitors. In that, there is a charm that makes it worth the visit, even if just for the unique art communities that thrive in this brutal desert.

Staying safe on the highway
The highways bring the joy of the open road, wind in your hair and traffic a thing of bygones. However it also means fast cars, trucks and semis. It means people passing on the opposite lane. It means driving at night you have to pay special care. It also means the road is sprinkled with police. Please be smart, drive safe and defensively — get where you’re going in one piece and without a ticket!
Siðir og menning
All that dirt belongs to someone...
The desert is vast and at times it can look like a big playground. Do yourself a favor and pay attention to things like that obvious property lines, maps and apps like onX which show what is private vs. public land.
Siðir og menning
Respect the desert
Even though there isn’t waterfalls or whales swimming around the desert is a fragile ecosystem with limited resources. Do not feed animals, do not litter, do not light fires where/when prohibited, do not drive off road, do not remove plants or rocks unless permitted on government land. Overall be kind and gentle, it’s hot, cold, dry, and the extreme of every season we rely on visitors to help maintain a healthy desert.
