Neighborhoods
Downtown Callicoon is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places for its untouched storefronts on Main Street lined with restaurants, cafes, antique stores, a wine shop, a 1940s movie theatre, and a full-service grocery store. The surrounding area offers hiking and cross-country skiing, canoeing and kayaking, mountain biking, and fly-fishing, but you might want to follow the example of the owners and curl up in front of the two-story fireplace with a book instead.

Country Basics
Here are a few things you should know before heading Upstate: Outdoor pests: Lyme, a tick-borne disease, is a serious concern in the Hudson Valley and Catskills, as are poison oak / poison ivy. Please be vigilant, wear long pants and sleeves when playing outdoors, and check yourselves and your pets daily for ticks. Bears live in the woods outside Callicoon. For this reason, do not leave foodstuffs uncovered either outside or in your car during the summer months. Follow rules for trash disposal. If you do see a bear, do not approach the animal but keep a respectful distance.

Things to Know
Water: The water in the house is supplied by the well, which you can see out front. In summertime, the well occasionally runs low, so to avoid any water shortages, please try to conserve water by taking short showers, etc. Firepit: A late-night bonfire under the stars is a real treat, but we ask that you don’t try to push the limits of the firepit with huge fires. Not only is this a hazard, but can damage the pit. In early spring or summer, please check if there is a fire ban in place. If there is, take care with fires in the outdoor pit. We provide wood for the pit.

Walking and Hiking
For a vigorous walk, you might want to walk to and back from the Seminary Hill Orchard and Cidery. Down the driveway, turn left, take your first right onto Kautz Road, then your first left onto Wagner Lane, where the orchard and cidery are located. Tours, cider tastings, lunches, dinners, and snacks are available. Views are incredible. Check our website for opening times. Walking into town and back tests your stamina. For an easier walk, drive to River Road in Callicoon, park near town, and walk along the flat road by the Delaware River.
