Peekskill Central Market- https://www.peekskillcentralmarket.com/ The 176-year-old, three-level structure was built by William Nelson- Peekskill lawyer, Congressman and friend to Abraham Lincoln. Its first use was as a grocery store in 1838. The Peekskill telegraph office was then located here in the 1860s. A small stage, built on the 3rd floor in 1870, was identified as the “Dramatic Hall.” The street level retail store, known as Durrin Brothers, provided hardware supplies starting around 1880. This business became Kurzhals Brothers Hardware in 1920. Later on, the Capital Glass Company operated here in the 1970s and 80s. This space now houses shops and an event space. The Dramatic Hall serves as a space to host weddings, private parties, plays, live music performances and more.

- The trail up Mount Beacon is steep, but occasional switchbacks make the aerobic workout manageable. The hike actually begins on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, in the early 20th century the world's steepest funicular and one of the Hudson Valley's prime tourist attractions. The trail to Mount Beacon's summit, a shade over a mile and steadily uphill, follows a winding road that passes some lovely rock formations. Deer and other wildlife abound.

Despite its relatively short length, this is generally considered to be the most strenuous hike in the East Hudson Highlands. It involves steep climbs over rock ledges that can be very slippery when wet. You'll need to use both your hands and your feet in many places along the way. Proper footgear is essential for this hike, which is best done on weekdays, to avoid the crowds on weekends

The Walkway Over the Hudson is a marvel of engineering — and recycling. The longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world, Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park is perched 212 feet above the Hudson River, offering spectacular panoramic views of the valley. It spans the Hudson River between the City of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County on the east and the Town of Lloyd, Highland, in Ulster County on the west. Picnic tables, bathrooms, benches, bike racks, and food and beverage concession stands are available at both east and west entrances. Limited free parking is available on both sides, along with paid parking in lots ($5 fee). Go: There are two entrances to the park in the City of Poughkeepsie: 61 Parker Ave. (paved street-level access) and 130 Washington St. (40-step stairway direct to bridge entrance). On the west side of the park there is one entrance: 87 Haviland Road, Highland. Or use any of the Dutchess Rail Trail or Hudson Valley Rail Trail trailheads to access the Walkway by bicycle.
